Sobre mí

UPDATE:
I was very active on this platform some time ago, but was disheartened when CS began charging a monthly fee for experiences that its members provide for free. Nonetheless, as I plan my upcoming trip to Spain I didn't want to miss out on the unique CS experiences and decided to return for this last ride! Hopefully, the genuine spirit of CS still thrives!

I'm keen to navigate the intricate mosaic of your personal journey, delving into the stories and epochs that have shaped your society! Also a lot of my CS hosts/surfers deleted their accounts, and with them gone are many great reviews. I hope the few remaining still convince you - I have not changed! Ah, I guess a little bit, but only to the better! ;P

ABOUT ME

Hey, my name is Lukas (or Luki)!

I travelled a lot in recent years (~30 countries, 7 this year (+3 more Baltics to go!)) out of curiosity and due to my job as a scientist (conferences). In my research, I try to combine something very "hard" and provable (computer science/math) with something very "soft" and complex (human emotions). Although I am definitely a nerd in many (work-related) aspects, I am also communicative and enjoy a good time!

Low-budget traveling nearly always gives me a good time. The mattress might be hard but the people I meet, the stories they share and the (short) time you spend together is sweeter.

Also I spend quite some time living abroad, in Melbourne and for the last two years in London and founded a start-up there.

London is definitely one of the best cities in the world to live, but it also comes with cons. Housing is ridiculous expensive and the furniture which is mostly included in the rent just never gave me the feeling of being at home. Since I moved back, I started to build almost all my furniture myself - yeah, guess some people would call that overcompensating :D But in my opinion, all the hard work and scratches was worth it! You can spot some of my work in my pictures :)

Guess like for most people, all that made me to an easy-going, down-to-earth and positive minded person.

PHILOSOPHY

"There are no strangers, just a friend you havent met yet..."

"The meaning of life is to find your gift, the purpose of life is to give it back"

"Surround yourself with those who are better than you, and learn from them"

"First we form bad habits, then they form us. Conquer your bad habits, or they will conquer you." - Rob Gilbert

"Live your life with lots of motion, so when you're dead, people notice."

"A great man shows his greatness by how he treats little men."

"once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box..." (I like chess even though I am not very good ;D)

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I am very lucky to have friends around the globe who invited me to crush on their couches! Meet up again after you know each other from a place where you both were foreign and then be showed around to see their local hood - definitely changed my life! Recently, I decided to reactivate this account to offer the guest room to the CS community :-) Which is now occupied by my new roommate and dear friend (so back to the couch/foldable mattress - sorry guys :P)

Intereses

- All kinds of science
- Climbing and chess
- Learning languages (very excited to complete my goal to be fluent in Spanish and Japanese or Mandarin (haven't decided yet since both are soo hard to learn) before I am an old man!)
- Sports (climbing again, hiking, running, mountain biking, soccer ...)

Música, películas y libros

I am open to all genres as long the storyline is not too predictable, ive been watching some Netflix lately. I like mind blowing plot twist!

Started to watch YouTube and found some great documentary, science, chess, furniture and explosion channels - happy to share 8-)

Books that helped shape who I am: The new brave world, all Karl May books - literally all ~70, Metamorphisis - Franz Kafka, A Painted House - John Grisham, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harry Potter, Animorphs, 1984, Animal Farm, Range... The list goes on!

Algo increíble que he hecho

Last year I took on the task of climbing Sri Pada Mountain (a.k.a. Adam’s Peak, Sri Lanka). Every year, 20,000 pilgrims of a wide range of religious beliefs search for moral and spiritual significance. The hike is completely at night, I had to get up at 1AM and climbed 5,500 steep, slippery steps alongside Thevada Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians - to see one of the most beautiful sunrises in the world. Definitely an amazing thing to do!

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Teach: I can teach you about Bavaria, including good places to visit, things to do, and funny sentences to say that will make you very popular with any Bavarian you meet! I can also tell you a little about Germans and why they are culturally different to Bavarians! ;P And the stereotype: "Do it efficiently, get it done, then sit down with a good quality beer, a pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe - one of my favourite foods in the world! - before I became vegetarian last year...Mal) and a good laugh."
If you're business minded, i would love to share startup ideas with you.

Learn: I love learning all about new cultures, languages, cooking, dancing, anything really. A full life is about learning 'sweet skills' :)

Share: I ve been to many places, seen many things, experienced the good and bad, and learned from it in the motive of continuous self improvement. Lets share some knowledge, and come out of the experience richer and wiser.

"I met a man with a dollar, we exchanged dollars and ended up still having one dollar each. I met a man with an idea, we exchanged ideas and walked away with 2 ideas each"

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

Smiles, stories, cooking, cleaning, walking the dog or doing some grocery shopping!
That's not all I can share, but it is what first came to mind. If you need help with something, just ask me :)
