Exploring new cultures is my bread and butter, and I've lived, worked and travelled in many diverse regions. My most recent was 3 years on the silk road in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. I'm very easygoing and am always up for new experiences. I'm just as happy exploring by myself, as I am having a lark with mates or cooking for company.

Usually very active dashing around doing everything, but every now and again indulge in bouts of utter laziness...Am now looking for a new place to work and live!

PHILOSOPHY

I've had my philosophies tattooed on me in pictures and poetry; they're very personal. Ask! Generally though I feel that it's important to see your place in the greater scheme of things and think how you can help people you wouldn't normally think to help.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm quite new to this and won't be able to host anyone yet, but in future when I'm settled I hope to be able to offer a couch, local advice and home-cooked food to travellers wherever I happen to be living.

1. Cooking - just give me a well-stocked kitchen...
2. Scuba diving - was once a qualified rescue diver, but the last 3 years spent in the city furthest from any ocean in the world had some drawbacks...
3. The outdoors - camping, hiking, cycling, wandering, appreciating...
4. Being a global nomad - I always seem to be on the move!

Music, Movies, and Books

Jazz, electro, ska, piano, latin...Generally have a random collection of music! Voracious reader; favourite fiction author is Terry Pratchett and I also read a lot of publications and journals.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent 3 years living and breathing an amazing experience in Xinjiang - China's huge Muslim hinterland province bordering Pakistan, Central Asia, Russia and Tibet. From camels on grasslands high in the mountains, to golden trees in the desert, beautiful alpine lakes, and an incredible kaleidoscope of cultures, this region left a lasting impact on me. Not least was dealing with what happened in 2009...
