About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Help people connect with each other.

ABOUT ME

I'm a geek with a zest for adventure. I usually explore when I travel and have just a rough itinerary, packed with food stops. I enjoy meeting new people, whether it's on the road or at home in Dallas (where I've lived for 20+ yrs). Some things I do for fun: cooking, reading, tabletop games, woodworking and dancing Argentine tango. I've been lucky enough to travel to quite a few places around the world and enjoy sharing stories and misadventures with fellow travelers.

PHILOSOPHY

Be a better person today than you were yesterday.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I own a couple of properties in the Bishop Arts area of Dallas, TX which I rent out on Airbnb. The Flying Backpack is a co-living space that's run like a hostel. We reserve a bed for CouchSurfers to use, which is a Twin XL memory foam mattress bunkbed. My friend, Chris, and I love what we experience and the people we get to meet when we travel--so we decided to bring that feeling back with us to Dallas!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been using Airbnb since 2015, but in 2018 have started hosting Couchsurfers as well.

Interests

I am fascinated by architecture and nature. The built environment by man and the natural world it resides in never cease to amaze me with their beauty. I love food. Whether it's enjoying the tastes of another culture or experimenting with cooking, the experience is rewarding and usually delicious. In my spare time, I like to exercise or read. Having a healthy mind and body feels great. Reading also allows me to feel like I'm living multiple lives and adventures! I also dance Argentine tango.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my favorite moments from my study abroad trip in Europe was of my first night in Venice. After arriving in the city and finding our hotel in its maze, my friends and I explored. It was night time when we made our way to the Piazza San Marco. As we came out of a narrow street into the plaza, the air was filled with elegant orchestral music and the soft chatter of a small crowd of people all around as the warm glow of streetlamps illuminated the columns and arches of the buildings. It felt as though I had stepped into a dream. It was a beautiful moment that I won't easily forget.

Another was from my last night in Paris. My roommates and I were taken on a bicycle tour of Paris by our French studio partners. We rented the bikes from one of the racks that were all around the city. When we rode around, it was around midnight and the city was lit by streetlamps that reflected off of the Rhine. We stopped on a bridge to look back at the Eiffel Tower lighted up in the background. Oh what a sight. The streets were nearly empty which let us have the road almost to ourselves. The crisp chilly air felt good as we rode down the streets, stopping at various places we had been during the day such as Centre Pompidou and the Louvre. The last place we rode to was the Eiffel Tower. By that time, it was about 3am and almost all of the lights in the city were off. It was serene and peaceful as we rode beneath the tower that loomed above, blending into the night sky. It was around this time that I took everything in, thought about what a great time I had in Europe and how there was no better way I could have ended the trip than with a bike ride through Paris in the middle of the night.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd share my love and knowledge of architecture, food/cooking, swing dancing, Argentine tango, and anything else I know!

Learning to play guitar would be pretty cool. I'm open to learning anything.
