About Me

I have had the privilege to call many places 'home' over the years: London, Munich, Brno, Edinburgh, and most recently, Oban (on the west coast of Scotland). Right now, 'home' is moving with me, as my life is in boxes and I am living out of my duffel bag with my partner Sofie. The big plan is to move to Norway but, before that, my partner Sofie and I are travelling together on an adventure of our dreams to Patagonia.

When not travelling, I work as a teacher during autumn - spring. I have taught maths at a secondary school in London, English as a foreign language in Czech Republic and, most recently, Education Studies at a university. In summer I work as a hiking guide in the Scottish Highlands and the Alps.

I love spending time outdoors in any capacity, but am most passionate about running and climbing. I try to run a marathon or two each year and one or two longer ultras.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To arrive in a foreign place, wide-eyed and tired from travel, and be met with such incredible generosity and kindness from someone you've never met before is such an amazing feeling. After every CS experience I am continually reassured about the goodness in people. I have surfed quite a lot in different countries around the world and only had positive experiences. I have also hosted as much as I have been able to, but would love to do more in the future!

Interests

Waking up and making the most of every day. Being as active and healthy as possible. Learning and discovering new things.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am in a book club with some mates. Choices have ranged from Stoner to In Patagonia to Catch 22. It's a great laugh and motivator to expand our horizons on all different genres of literature.

Favourite music- John Grant, Efterklang, Bonobo, Tracy Chapman, James Blake, Ben Howard, Mumford & Sons, Moderat, M83, Gold Panda, Gil Scott-Heron, Daughter, Flying Lotus, Bob Marley, Ben Harper, Broken Bells, Jon Hopkins, Caribou, Classic FM when I get back from a busy day or BBC Radio 6 for new music. Le Mellotron is my favourite radio station at the moment - they are based in Paris and play some really eclectic music. A fellow couchsurfer introduced me to them!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitch-hiked around northern Norway and headed out on a boat where we saw the Lofoten Islands rise steeply up from the ocean.

Roadtripped around the Westfjords, Iceland.

Hiked on the Pacific Crest Trail and woken up by a large animal (read: bear or mountain lion) at midnight, having not seen anyone on the trail all day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to cook some pretty tasty vegan food.

I run most mornings - you're more than welcome to join!

If anyone can help my appalling yoga capabilities then I'll be a willing student.

Quero aprender más Español!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking, language learning, running.
