About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make new connections and learn a little something

ABOUT ME

Just a girl from Wisconsin with an incurable case of wanderlust.

Until further notice, I've made Saigon my base–where I live and teach English.

PHILOSOPHY

"If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home"€-“ James Michener

"€œGo for broke. Always try and do too much. Dispense with safety nets. Take a deep breath before you begin talking. Aim for the stars. Keep grinning. Be bloody-minded. Argue with the world. And never forget that writing is as close as we get to keeping a hold on the thousand and one things and childhood, certainties, cities, doubts, dreams, instants, phrases, parents, loves that go on slipping, like sand, through our fingers."€“ -Salman Rushdie

It's not where you are; it's who you're with.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a few surfers; and done a bit of surfing in Latin America. All great experiences. What's not to love about a social network that provides direct contact with friends I've yet to meet from all over the world?

Interests

I prefer to spend as much time as possible outdoors (when the weather permits); and if I could be hiking, swimming in natural bodies of water, or wandering around in new places, that makes me very happy. Other things I love: engaging in quality conversation over a long, leisurely meal; embarking on adventures with friends new and old. Food in general (especially street food) in exotic locales, and visiting markets. Long bus rides when I have plenty of reading material and good tunes. Taking pictures.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies with well written screenplays, beautiful cinematography or anything funny, quirky or unique. Music that makes me dance or reflect. Live music. Books of all sort; though good nonfiction really gets me excited

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed a UNESCO world heritage mountain with a field trip of local grade school children, and danced the night away at a village fish fry in St. Lucia, trekked to Machu Picchu, explored the Ecuadorian Amazon. Ate fresh lobster in the very desolate northern-most peninsula of South America. Sailed through the San Blas Islands. Snorkeled alongside a family of eagle rays in the Corn Islands. Drank mojitos and salsa danced in Havana.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Cambodia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Saint Lucia, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
