About Me
Hey there!
My name is Lydia and I have recently graduated from the University of Cambridge (June 2016) studying Modern Languages, in particular German and Italian. I also studied French and Spanish at school and on my year abroad (2014-2015.)
My next trip will be my fourth solo travelling adventure. I am doing workaway at a hostel in Sao Paulo, Brazil for several weeks whilst also teaching English and then heading up to Rio de Janeiro. My plans are quite flexible and I don't have a time limit but I would also love to visit Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador whilst doing both Couchsurfing and workaway.
I have already traveled Australia, America, Canada and Europe alone and have spent 1 year living in both Rome and Germany as an Erasmus student. I am used to meeting new people on a daily basis and making long lasting friendships straight away (my best friends live in so many different countries!) I am an extremely friendly person and can get on well with anybody. I love to make people happy and get them involved in different events such as parties, visiting cities or just a night in chatting.
Since I was a little girl my dream was to travel the globe and learn as many languages and meet as many people as possible. Now I have graduated, I have little commitment so I am therefore able spend a lot of time exploring new places. Simultaneously, I am completing an online "Teaching English as a Foreign Language" course so that I can hopefully become a qualified English teacher in a few months and teach in some beautiful locations. This job will allow me to continue my travelling dream and pursue a rewarding career. If you know of any places wanting English teachers/practice then please let me know! :)
At University, I worked as a CAMbassador, encouraging people from disadvantaged backgrounds to make an application to Cambridge and university in general. This job taught me how to inspire others and help them reach their full potential. I've spent a lot of post graduation life so far catching up on my social life, meeting friends and travelling Europe for a few weeks.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To me, the best thing in life is travelling and meeting people from around the world. I love learning about each person's individual life story and so couchsurfing means that I get to know the locals very well and exchange stories and personal experiences.

I have a weak spot for Taylor Swift haha, but also enjoy different artists including my favourite band, Peace.
My favourite books range from Harry Potter, to Orwell's 1984 and Kafka's Die Verwandlung.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was 18, I was talking on Skype to a friend in Canada at 3am England time. My friend told me that I had a flight from London Airport to Toronto in 10 hours and hung up. I got my suitcase out of the wardrobe, packed everything, went into my Mum's room in the morning and told her I was going to Canada for a week. I then went to school for the first part of the day with my suitcase and left halfway through to casually catch the plane to Canada. This spontaneous trip was where I caught the 'travel bug'
I also traveled around Australia and America in 2015 and met some incredible people.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to practice teaching English or even other languages that I am quite competent in like German and Italian.
I can play the piano.
It would be great to share cultural experiences - I have a lot of great travel stories!
I'm very sociable and up for anything including partying or just a nice walk around the city.
