About Me

I am friendly, easygoing, and always up for a good time. I love a good conversation and a good adventure. From time to time I lapse into periods of pensiveness and come off slightly aloof - but I promise I don't mean to be hostile; a mere hello will be enough to bring me back to earth!

study Literature and Politics at the University of York and am into anything related to literature, art and culture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To learn about the world, meet people of different cultures and make lots of friends and memories! Also to share stories and meet people with all sorts of different experiences and perspectives :-)

Interests

Adventuring! I am quite the adrenaline junkie and love anything that can teach or show me something new or exciting.

I dabble in amateur poetry/ creative writing and keep a very extensive journal. I find life beautiful and constantly attempt (almost always in vain) to capture and frame my conception of precise moments. My words always fall far short though but they help me keep grounded in the chaos that is living and are more than I could ever ask for.

I also love lounging about in the sun and birdwatching in the rain. I find long runs therapeutic. I used to be into competitive swimming and distance running but several recurring injuries had me decide to partake in these activities at a leisurely level to save myself the pain of having one of my favourite activities morph into something associated with pain and disappointment.

I am also a retired dancer obsessed with watching dance videos online - so if you're into that sort of thing we could get on very well

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music and books that I can relate to on an intensely personal level. My favourite sounds tend to express certain aspects of me for which words are inadequate. I feel they give me a voice where I am mute, which is why I conceive of sitting and sharing music as a very intimate activity, but one I would readily partake in with anyone interested.

Alt-J, Glass Animals, Lana del Rey, The xx, The Weeknd, Daughter, Cat Power, Awolnation, R.E.M, Foster The People, Gorillaz

Mrs Dalloway by Woolf, Why Be Happy When You Can Be Normal? by Winterson, LOTR by Tolkien, Season of Migration to the North by Salib, Lucy by Kincaid and many more (too many to list really)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In my better days I ran a national vertical marathon - and came in 6th too. We raced up the 73 floors of Singapore's tallest building before dawn just in time to catch a breathtaking view of the sunset and it was GLORIOUS

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach Mandarin Chinese, Singlish (English mixed with Singaporean slang) and a bunch of Singaporean swear words. If it interests you we could also talk about what it feels like coming from a place literally at the cross-roads of cultures - what with being a mish-mash of post-colonial residue and relative Asian-ness and hyper-efficiency and high levels of technology

What I Can Share with Hosts

I could share with you Singaporean cooking and book recommendations and lots and lots of stories!
