About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Chill out.

ABOUT ME

Back in August 2009 I embarked on a spur of the moment trip through the US and Mexico. I joined Couchsurfing days before I left in hopes of having more fun in strange cities, meeting some cool people, and saving money on hostels that I could use to extend my trip. Couchsurfing delivered all that and more! I formed friendships, hiked to a waterfall in the middle of the night, bonded over beer, learned some Spanish, and made awesome collaborative meals as I travelled through the US and Mexico. I love that it's a free community that's open to anyone. I have no problem with people using it because it's free and they're travelling cheap. Just putting that out there.

So now I'm back in Victoria, working as a cook in the smallest kitchen ever, currently trying to figure out my next move. I live in Fernwood, a neighbourhood close to downtown. My work schedule varies, but I'm pretty much up for anything in the afternoon, evening, or on my days off.

One thing you should know about me, especially if I stay with you, is that I'm Diabetic. Rest assured that if you hang out with me for any length of time you will see me check my blood sugar or give myself an Insulin shot. I've been Diabetic since I was 5 and it's really not a big deal. I will pack out any syringes I use and not dispose of them in your garbage. I may want to store my Insulin in your fridge though.

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is a complicated subject. Travel wise, I try not to let anything hold me back. I can't count the number of times people have told me I "can't" do things like travel alone, rideshare, go out after dark, have conversations with strangers, and even stay in cheap guesthouses because I'm a girl. I take "can't" as a personal challenge. Things like gender, medical conditions, and even lack of funds shouldn't be excuses not to do things you want to do! If I can do it, you can too!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've stayed with people in Canada, the US, and Mexico. I try to be a good guest and contribute something to the people who generously give me a place to stay, some good company, or reccomendations on stuff to do.

At home, I'd like to host, show people around, or just help you out with directions.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed with a guy with really friendly cats, went out for a night on the town in Tijuana, Mexico, had the best Korean BBQ in El Paso, participated in a pub crawl in Portland, and went to an art show in Victoria, among other things.

Interests

Horror movies, cooking, especially Thai, Mexican, Indian, and breakfast, yoga, riding my bike, making art, travel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one? I ate deep fried crickets in Thailand, and not just for the shock value. They make an excellent beer snack.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know all kinds of useful information about a bunch of different topics. You probably do too. If we meet up, we will learn from each other.
