I de-facto started the recycling program in my town, long before it was cool. It was probably around 1992-93 and I was only 11 or 13 when the town forced everyone to separate their glass and aluminum from the waste.

A noble cause, I suppose, except they still sent one truck around and threw everyone's trash and recycling into one dumpster. I had stayed home from school on collection day, noticed, and told my mom.

She watched for the next two weeks, confirmed the scam, and told the town that if they were gonna make us sort, they were damned sure gonna send two bins and take them to different piles.
