About Me

I came from a southern state in Malaysia, just a strait away from Singapore, and moved to Kuala Lumpur about four years ago. Now working at my alma mater, my work takes me across Southeast Asia throughout the year.

Nowadays I'm usually occupied on weekdays and sometimes even weekends. But I try to keep my Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons vacant for meet ups and hang outs. I've been over-hosting for the past few months, so I'm toning it down to 2 surfers max per month and a maximum of 3 days (2 nights) per guest. I also try to host only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. At least for now. Thanks for understanding :)

But sometimes, I make exceptions.

For interesting people :D

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm hopelessly and eternally curious about people.
What's your name? Where do you come from? What do you do? What brings you here? Where do you want to go? What excites you? What annoys you? What matters to you? I'm curious to know how people in my country live their lives here. I'm even more curious to know how people live their lives in other parts of the world.

But I'm also socially anxious.

So I figure joining Couchsurfing will solve my dilemma. If it's hard for me to reach out to people, why don't I start by letting people in, and I'll work on my anxiety from there?

Everyone is interesting in their own way, and everyone has a story or two to tell. But there's one specific type of people that I want to meet - people who can take off their mask and share their stories. Not just any story, but the ones they hold dear to heart.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Ed Sheeran, Sia, Angela Aki, Do As Infinity, Bruno Mars, Linkin Park, Karmina, Birdy, Jess Glynne, oh dear.. there are so many..! But a lot of times, I choose music over any particular musicians. If it's good music, it's all good for me.

Movies: That's got to be Lord of the Rings, of course! The best movie of all time for me. Others include newer movies like Inception, Interstellar, Kimi No Na Wa, Hidden Figures...there are many many more because I watch crazy loads of movies. As for TV series, I'm currently following The Walking Dead and Origins: The Journey of Humankind. I'm digging Jason Silva at the moment.

Books: Body of Work by Pamela Slim is a good one. I'm a non-fiction person. But some of the good novels I have read are the Millenium series and The Hunger Games series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Volunteering at the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies!

If I may, the second most amazing thing I have done is attending the 10-day Vipassana Meditation course as taught by S.N. Goenka at Penang Hill East over Christmas 2016 and New Year 2017.

Edit May 2017:
I just came back from a month-long back-to-back trips, beginning in Central - South Vietnam, continuing to Guangxi - Yunnan, China and ending in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. In each location, I travelled with a different group of people. Each trip ended with a flight back home, only to travel to the next trip location on the very next day. A year ago, I wouldn't have been able to pull this off. So today, I'm patting myself on the back and putting this up on the list of amazing things I've done.

Teach, Learn, Share

Because of my job, I know a few tips and tricks about travelling in Southeast Asia that I'm happy to share with you :)

I'd be so happy if anyone could teach me how to swim! That will be my daily exercise routine once I know how to :)

I hope that one day, I can make my own song and play on an ukulele. If anyone can teach me how to read music scores, write a song, or play ukulele, I'll be so grateful!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm good at organising and de-cluttering. If you feel you could use some help for an hour or two at home, I'm happy to :). But be prepared to throw stuff or donate them away :D
