Overview
About Me
I just recently graduated from St. John's College in beautiful Santa Fe, NM. Now I am pursuing a deeper, more intimate understanding of the world. I have never traveled much, and never internationally. On September 1st, however, I will set out on my first adventure overseas, walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and then exploring the rest of Europe and perhaps beyond before returning home to develop my career as a professional artist and designer. I am very excited to learn and to experience world beyond the borders of my birthplace!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have very few resources to travel with and am looking to travel more efficiently. I also want to experience the world from a more intimate, human perspective rather than glossy, expensive tours and hotels. I want to see the little places that give each place its unique feel, and see a little of what it is really like living outside the United States, and have a good time with the local people.
Interests
I'm an artist, designer, and storyteller. I want to develop connections between art, science, technology, and community. In school I studied mathematics (a subject I am very passionate about, even if I am not always very good at it), sciences, poetry, music, philosophy, and history by reading the great classics of the Western canon. I am also a huge lover of video games, comic books, and science fiction, ever since I was a kid. Playing Dungeons and Dragons in college is part of what inspired me to learn to become a world traveler.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love listening to a wide variety of music, but I especially love urban sounds: hip-hop, jazz, deep house, techno, etc. I'm also known to listen to a fair amount of alternative/indie music (Andrew Bird, Broken Bells), and a lot of classical. Discovering new music, though, is perhaps my favorite way to listen. I don't watch a whole lot of movies, but I love science fiction movies, and was a huge fan of Indiana Jones as a child. There are a lot of books I like, but I especially love Isaac Asimov's stories, Sherlock Holmes mysteries, and Toaist, Buddhist, and Greek philosophy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My first time in Los Angeles, I had never driven on such big highway. I was driving from Santa Fe to LA with a friend from New Zealand, and she drove the first half of the trip. I volunteered to drive the second half, not realizing how busy the roads would be, how many trucks there were, or that there would be miles of highway with nothing but guardrail and a sheer drop into the valley bellow on my left. It was one of the most terrifying and thrilling things I'd done. By the time I got used to it, though, it was also one of the most fun driving experiences I've had, in part because it was so unexpected.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm always happy to share and teach whatever I know about the world. I'm especially knowledgeable about art, science, math, and philosophy (though I'm no expert). I'm especially eager to learn from other people, to learn about languages and cultures, and to hear new stories and try new things.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Exuberance, art, love, fun, and good conversation. I try to bring beer or wine if I can, or food. If not, I can make some fun art for you. I can craft trinkets and draw pictures like no other!
