About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make the world a better place

ABOUT ME

I am a happy persons with a nice good mood.
I like to discuss all kind of different subjects, especially physics, religion and all kind of technical things.

I don't smoke, never did and have absolutely no plan of starting now.

PHILOSOPHY

I actually was somewhat serious when I in my 'current mission' wrote 'to make the world a better place'.

I am not to sure exactly who God is and everything (I am a christian though, so I have some ideas about who he is). But I am rather sure he didn't wanted to world to suffer as much as it is now.
I am trying to do the little things I can and probably even more important, not to be depressed about the things I can't change (yet?).
I have been a volunteer in Chisinua, Moldova for 5½ month, helped a bit in a soup-kitchen in Jerusalem, Israel and in my own neighboorhood I was in a homework-cafe helping children. Not just with their homework, but probably even more so, with their selfesteem and showing them that they are alright and worth being loved.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Until now I have only been traveling.
But it's going to be fun to host as well!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have used a similar network (Pasporta Servo) twice. First time was in Italy january 2009 and the second time was in England july 2010, just before I started using CS.

I have traveled in Poland for a week, visiting 3 different CouchSurfing hosts and in China/Hong Kong (stayed at 1 host and met with several couchsurfers, 2 from China and 2 travelers)

And for sure, CouchSurfing is way better than any other travelform. Getting close to people, actually living there instead of having a turism experience in a fancy hotel.

This map isn't exactly accurate. Just because I have been to a tiny corner of a huge country - it colors it all red (like e.g. Moscow or a bit of Midwest in US), but that how the map works.

Interests

I love traveling, - but I guess all at CouchSurfing does. Love getting close to people. Finding out about there believes, politics, language, culture and such.
Even on the 'old-school' hostels it's possible to meet up with very different cultures and ideas.

I am learning Esperanto. It's a langauge that's very easy to learn and the philosophy, at least for me, is that everyone is at the same level since a) it's easy to learn and b) no one has it as his/her native tongue.

All kind of technical things like computer, internet, photo etc.

I really enjoy taking pictures

Music, Movies, and Books

I like Björk and Dancer in the Dark is one of my favorites.
I actually also like Dogville and Mandalay, though Lars von Trier (who is Danish like me) is sometimes creepy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know. It's hard to say. Perhaps:
* Praying in China for cheap accomodation because my friend lost his passboard and getting a SMS before we even ended the prayer from Kim - giving us free accomodation for our entire stay in Shenzen.
* Feeling the love from my students after helping them through their exams
* Meeting people who truly cares and want to help - though they just meet you for the first time in their life
* Living in Israel - really it's the promised land. I am not a Jew but Israel is special. Unfortunately I was there for just 7 weeks
* Having two wonderful nieces. Unfortunately I don't have children my self - not even a girlfriend. So the chance of it happening anytime soon is rather limited. But my nieces are a blessing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe in love. Not the erotic love between man and woman, but the kind of love you'll show to a friend.

I believe that kind of love is extremely powerful and capable of changing the world. Not over night of course, but I really believe that it's our true hope.

And I believe Paul captured a good portion of what that kind of love is:

-- 1st Corinthians 13 --
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
-- 1st Corinthians 13 --
