Overview
About Me
Currently I am back to my home country, Cambodia. I am living with my family in Phnom Penh.
My name is You Y from Cambodia. I was born and raised in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. I came to Europe for pursing my master degree in International Media Studies (Journalism) in Bonn, Germany. Now I am traveling in Europe before my visa expires.
What could I say about me? I am kind of half Chinese and Cambodian. I grew up in a big family of 8 people. I am the youngest child in the family. My parents have a small business which is good enough to support us for a decent living and education. Coming to Europe to study is my dream to go out of the comfort zone and challenge myself. Living in Bonn alone doesn't make me feel homesick, I really enjoy the freedom and navigate to different places in the city and so grateful for getting to know my classmates who come from 20 countries in the world (Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Africa.) I have learned a lot from them especially got to know the beautiful differences of culture.
My wish is to be free from whom I think I am, travel to see beautiful places in Europe and meet strangers who can at any time become good friends. I am now travelling in Europe with my boyfriend (Valentin Francu from Romania) whom I met at a music festival called AgratAmAghata in Germany. We would like to spend this valuable time together and travel to see amazing places in Europe.
You can check Valentin's profile on Couchsurfing: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/retardito
The trip was over on 18th October.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
So far the experience is amazing :) let's talk when we meet.
I have created the Couchsurfing account in Bonn, Germany a year after I arrived, but I have not yet hosted anyone at the dorm. I have heard a lot of great stories and impressed by those stories. It opens my eyes to the world of kind and nice people out there who share their houses or rooms with strangers. This is very unfamiliar to the culture that I grew up with.
I wish I could host people when I am back in Cambodia, but frankly speaking since I will be living with my parents and my brother's family, it might not easy to explain them about this. I'll see when I am back though :)
