About Me

I am a currently serving AmeriCorps VISTA Leader, finishing my third term of service. My contract ends June 28th, and I will be traveling across the Midwest/Southwest of the United States for about a month in July to see friends before going back to school in the fall.

CURRENT MISSION

To optimize my life for happiness and richness of experience. I am a solidarity activist for social justice causes and am involved in organizing in Columbus, Ohio. I have worked for a variety of nonprofits in the past several years as an AmeriCorps member, and I am excited to meet others who are likewise committed to making the world a better place!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love traveling, especially on a budget. I look forward to meeting my hosts and getting to know them along the way!

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite music, currently, is a cross between classic country and British invasion: basically, my Nancy Sinatra/Dolly Parton Pandora station with Johnny Cash, The Animals, The Zombies, and Patsy Cline.

My favorite movies are Studio Ghibli films, documentaries, and films noirs.

My favorite books are Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie, Dark Princess by W.E.B. DuBois, and a slew of nonfiction: The American Way of Eating, Food for Beginners, Salt Sugar Fat, Nickled and Dimed, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met CeCe McDonald and had margaritas with her. The amazing part was the organizing, fund raising, and event planning that went into bringing her to Columbus. I am incredibly proud of the work that I and my comrades put in to host such an amazing individual.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to knit or cook! I am learning embroidery and cross-stitch, and Spanish.
