Overview
About Me
My name is Maaike I live in a smal village near Gent and love living here.
I will become a support worker next year when I finish my education and I absolutely love to work with people with disabilities because I want to increase their quality of life. I’ve been dancing since I was three years old and discovered Ritmic gymnastics, a discipline in which I’ve become a trainer five years ago. I am an honest and cheerful girl who loves the beautie of nature but likes to get lost in a big beautiful city. I am a book with many different pages, maybe hard to read at first but worthy of finishing.
My motto is: if being a little crazy would hurt, my life would be torture.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to discover the world! Cheesy I know but it’s the truth. I live in a small country and besides France, the snowy mountains of Italy and a couple of cities with school I haven’t seen much. I will be twenty one soon and I can’t think of a better moment to start living my dream. Before I die, I want to discover at least five countries per continent. Well I’ve got plenty of time don’t you think. Because this will be the first big trip, I will start by discovering Europe on my own. Just me, myself and you guys who I hope to meet during my road trip through Europe, the first of many adventures.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love to read thick books about different topics. I like to read true stories but love to lose myself in a fictional world created by the words written in the book. The only genre that I don’t like in books and movies is horror.
I like almost every music I hear on the radio but my absolute favourite band is Hurts. I have their three cd’s and was fortunate to see them perform life in the AB in Brussels.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing thing I've done was volunteering in Hungary in a nursing institution for people with multiple disabilities. I’ve learned to take care of them and accomplished some amazing things with the people who work there. These cliënts aren’t able to speak or walk on their own but at the end of the week they smile from cheek to cheek when they see you. I’ve learned to enjoy the little things in life and to be happy with the things I have. I am so impressed with the people in Ipolytölgyes that I’ve decided to return at least once a year.
