My name is Maan Youssouf Ahmed, I am a Djiboutian of Somali origins. I was born in 1985 in Djibouti, where I currently live and work. I am a photographer and a filmmaker.

My work focuses on Africa, more particularly on the Horn of Africa, one of the world’s most unknown region. For me it is very important we see Africa through the lens of African photographers

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel and more than that, I love meeting people. I'm on Couchsurfing to have the opportunity to explore other cultures and countries. And for me there's nothing better than discovering a place through the eyes of the inhabitants. We live in a global village thanks to internet. It makes the distances shorter in our minds. But just in our minds. I want to create a real global village with people I meet everyday in my travels, exchange ideas and maybe common histories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can't quantify how amazing were, things i have done...Sometimes I feel that Ive' been doing somme amazing stuff, till I hear more amazing stuff done by my friends or people I meet. It's extraordinary !! One amazing thing, I've done and that I've been doing for a very long time, it's being resilient, being hopeful and surviving as an artist in my country when all my friends were living. Djibouti is a beautiful country where the concept of art is missing. That's pretty amazing for me.
