About Me
My home is always available for awesome guest. If you need to surf my couch please send an official couch request. Thanks!
CURRENT MISSION
I've had opportunities to travel to 25 countries around the world and I understand how difficult it can be. The worst part of travel is being alone in a foreign land and not knowing where to go or what to do. I hope I can help the travel experience.
ABOUT ME
Feel free to add me on FaceBook if you want to know more about me. Mac Beckett - There's not too many of us so I'm easy to find. As a matter of fact there are only five. I'm the one who looks like me and lives in Peru. hahaha
I moved to Arequipa, Peru in April, 2012 and in February 2013 I moved to Lima. I currently work from home. I am a fun person and like hanging out with friends and enjoy clubs but I'm not a weekly club goer. If the opportunity arises I'll go. Love to dance and experience the Peruvian culture.
I really enjoy spending time with Couch Surfers and showing you this beautiful city.
I have a Siberian Husky - Border Collie mix dog, a Chihuahua, a Golden Retriever named Cosmo, and Cosmo’s son Kelev. Logan is my Husky and Rockett is the Chihuahua. Logan is probably the most popular dog in Miraflores and has been featured in three magazines for being the unofficial mascot in several coffee shops. He is the friendliest most loving dog you will ever meet. find Logan on Instagram at Logan_Coffee_Notes. I also have a cat named Bucky, and two parakeets named Star-Lord and Nebula. (Yes, they are all Marvel themed names. except Kelev. Kelev is Hebrew for Dog and means All Heart.
PHILOSOPHY
I drive my family crazy with this. I am not a typical Monday through Friday 9 - 5 person. Yes, I have to work but I must have an adventure. I cannot be locked down to routines like friends back in the States who after 20 years is doing the exact same thing every day and every year that they have since they began working. The world is so much bigger than where you grew up and I need to experience the world. I'm just offering up a place for people to stay so they can experience the same thing.
PRO-TIPS. PLEASE READ!
Lima is an awesome city to visit however, you have to take the good with the bad. Here are some tips to not get ripped off when you arrive in Lima.
#1 If flying into Lima, NEVER take a taxi from outside the airport property.
#2 At the airport, only exchange enough money to pay for a taxi. Then buy a pack of gum or something to break the bill into smaller bills so you can pay the taxi driver exact change. Taxi drivers may give you counterfeit bills in return if you pay with a large bill.
#3 Pay no more than S/.75 Soles from the airport to San Borja.
#4 Only take a taxi from someone with an official badge in the airport.
#5 If your flight comes in late at night or early morning don't look for a hostel near the airport. The area around the airport is not safe.
#6 Agree on the taxi fare before getting into a taxi. Plus make sure you say Soles because they may take you to your destination and you go to pay the 55 soles and they say "I told you $55 Dollars."
#7 Check all of your potential host references. I've hosted several Couch Surfers via Last Minute requests due to the fact that when they got to their host home, the host wanted sex. Couch Surfing is not a replacement for Tinder or Grindr. You should be able to stay without being hit on.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
After having hosted over 270 Couch Surfers in nine years I have come to one conclusion, staying with Couch Surfers is one of the most rewarding things you can do in your life.
When you step into my home please consider yourself to be in your home. I'll give you the wifi code and you can kick your shoes off and make yourself at home. You have free range of the kitchen and bath. You may come and go as you please because like I said this is your home.
IMPORTANT: Even though you have free range of the kitchen that doesn't mean my food and bottled water. I buy bottled water and food and recent guests take them without asking. There is a water filter on the sink and a bodega one block away.
I no longer live in Miraflores but centralized in San Borja near Jockey Plaza and close to the US Embassy in a beautiful five bedroom home.
I now offer a bedroom with two single beds, private bath with a tub and toilet.
I have a kitchen with a huge stove and oven, refrigerator, microwave, and blender. However, Please purchase your own food and water. I know people need to save money while traveling but please not at my expense.
I'm just going to put this out there. I have a shower and a washing machine, USE THEM! ;O)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far my experience has been phenomenal. I have never had an experience where I did not enjoy the company of my Couch Surfers. I welcome you to stay for your pre-intended time and I welcome you to stay longer if the couch is still available. Just let me know and it's yours.
Interests
I am interested in fitness, nutrition, walking, travel, movies, reading, learning, sight seeing, dancing, clubs, cooking, and getting to know people. I love to cook. I like to get to know my guest on a level that when you leave you feel like you're leaving a lifelong friend behind. Because that's what I've made with several Couch Surfers. Friends for life.
Also I love listening to messages from Reality Santa Barbara. www.realitysb.com

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies - I love movies. Action, Drama, Suspense, Comedies, and the occasional Romance.
Music - I'm very eclectic. I can listen to any music from any culture around the world. I like Dance, Pop, Rock, Classical, Big Band, Salsa, Afrikaans, etc. My favorite artists are Guaco from Venezuela, David Gray and Elvis Presley.
Books - As long as they have pictures. HAHA
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
There are so many but one amazing thing I've done is hiked in the Upper Amazon Jungle near Puyo, Ecuador. Climbed up mountains having to use exposed roots for steps, swam under a remote waterfall that you had to swim to through a cavern and canoed down the Puyo River. Swung on vines like Tarzan and slept in huts above the river.
Teach, Learn, Share
Nutrition! Studied and have learned a lot but I want to learn so much more. I used to weigh 400 pounds or 183kgs or 28.57 stones now I weigh 250 or 113kgs or 17.85 stones. I want to reach my goal of 100kgs or 220 pounds or 15.71 stones.
My biggest weakness is when I see an ice cold Coke in a glass bottle. Gotta have it!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I would say the greatest nugget of wisdom I have gained is to make sure you are on the same page as far as length of stay.
Also, make sure everyone who stays with you gets a rundown of where it is safe and not safe to go. I also like to give tips of what I've learned about how thieves try to take advantage of you.
