ABOUT ME

BIOGRAPHY | MARIO MACILAU | B.1984, LIVES AND WORKS IN MAPUTO |

As the plants do not choose the garden in which they flourish and blossom, Mário Macilau was born in the newly independent Mozambique, in the midst of the most critical phase of its civil war in 1984. His family struggled financially and moved from the Inhambane province to the capital, Maputo, in search of a better life. When he was 10 years old he began to work in a small market frequented by the middle / upper class, washing cars in the car park and helping to carry the groceries in an effort to support his family.

Macilau started his journey as photographer in 2003 and engaged to professional level when he traded his mother

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By helping visitors in my country by hosting them and helping them to discover the vibrant cultures that is result of mixture of customs and traditions influenced by local people as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Based on my experience, it’s important to meet new people because it has increased my social network and it has allowed me to grow socially. New people come with new ideas and new opportunities. I have learned how other people live and how to accept and respect other's cultures no matter how different they may be.

"No matter how round the world is, it's still one" meaning we're really all the same people though we have different backgrounds and cultures. We cry when we're hurt, we laugh when we're happy, we don't like being judged negatively just because we're different, and we all have problems. But we all have love within us too. So no matter how different, we're all human.

Interests

I love meeting new people and I think everyone has a story to tell. I am also very interests in new cultures, traditions or customs.

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough and I am still doing it once for long time or for the rest of my life.

As artist, photographer my vision is always about learning new things and as well sharing with others who find it interest or relevant and with that we can be able to change the world we're live in.
