About Me

PLEASE READ MY PROFILE IN FULL. Both the main page and My Home section. Include the city that I live in in your message, please.

NO COUCH AVAILABLE UNTIL MID-MARCH. Thank you, please drive through.

After two years of mostly constant travel, the last year of which living in Hobbes, my fantastic tiger van/rolling home, I've returned back to the Washington, DC area.

My Couchsurfing origin story:
On the last day of an apartment I lived in, all four people were going their separate ways. My longest standing friend was jumping on a plane the next day for Europe. The girls were going home. I was to be homeless for 2 weeks, waiting for my next dwelling. This site's address was scrawled on the bathroom mirror, left by a lovely little redhead.

This site fills me with hope. The world could learn a lot from this community.

I can be socially awkward and inept or loud, hilarious and intense depending upon mood and company. Typically, I find myself somewhere in-between.

I'm a geek in that I love science fiction, fantasy, video games, comics, anime and technology.

I'm a punk in that it wasn't a phase for me. 15 years after I started going to shows, the music still lifts me out of depression and the unity I feel at a good show gives me hope.

I despise cynicism though am plagued by it more often than I'd like to admit.

I identify as a feminist, an ally to the queer community, sex positive, and privileged as fuck (white, male, straight, cisgender, etc).

PHILOSOPHY
"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
"I'd rather be a sucker than a cynic."
I try very hard to live by these. I'm good at the first one, not as much with the second.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted tons in my time in DC, but now it's time to be on the other side of the couch for a while. I was very active in my local CS community and love to hook up with other CS communities where ever I might be.
Couchsurfing is a huge part of my life.

Music, Movies, and Books

PT Anderson, Tom Waits, and J.D. Salinger
Wes Anderson, punk rock, and J.K. Rowling
And lots and lots of the blues.

I'm rediscovering my punk roots. It was the first music I loved and and 10 years later is still the most important music to me.

The book Dishwasher took my head and heart by storm. Please pick up a copy and enjoy 'one man's quest to wash dishes in every state'.

I read a lot of comics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been through 2 hurricanes, one of which I ran outside drunkenly screaming at it during it's highest point. The other I played 7 hours of poker and Monopoly during.

On Valentines Day, I boarded a chartered bus with 50 college students headed for New York City. It was a good way to keep my mind off being single on this day. 24 hours later, we arrived February 15th, 2003, the International Day of Protest against the war in Iraq. The city only allowed it to be a stationary protest, everyone simply standing on 1st and 2nd Ave., but 750,000 people fighting for what they feel is right could not be denied. We took over the streets, ignoring the barricades and extending the protest as we marched 2 more Avenues over. A few unlucky motorists were trapped by the swarm of people. I witnessed 3 masked men, black bandanas on the lower-halves of their faces, mount a trapped van. One man crouched, holding a black and red flag. Another crouched holding a black and green flag. But they both flanked the last, who stood urgently on the van, waving a massive, purely black flag.

Shortly after, I marched past a building where a young couple stood at their open window, watching us and smiled. They stood there, safe in their 4th floor Manhattan apartment. I extended my arms to them and shouted "JOIN US!" They were still at that window when I rounded the next corner, but I like to think they ended up not far behind me.
