About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet local people while I work on my favorite type of photography - Travel :)

ABOUT ME

It is a bit risky to put some information down but I like to be open and some information is key to understanding where another person is coming from.

I used to believe in waiting until later in life to do some of the traveling I'd like (England, Europe, Australia) however an event in 2000 changed my outlook. In 2000 a macular tear caused a blind spot in the dead-center of one eye. I've been extremely near-sighted (but correctable) since I was young and retinal damage was discovered in 1992 in the same eye the experienced the tear in 2000. There is no guarantee that my remaining good eye will or will not follow the same path but if it does I want to try to make sure that if it does I don't regret not traveling while I still had the vision to enjoy sightseeing. I was an amateur photographer prior to the tear and I've had to switch eyes but I have finally gotten comfortable with the switch and so I take my camera wherever I go ... no matter how long or short I will be there.

When I was still adjusting to the missing sight in the eye I started to see that there was a need for web designers to build more accessible websites and have been studying web accessibility as much as I can ever since. My website has not been updated in quite a while (my last trip) because I've just been too busy but as we transition, at work, to a CMS system I will begin the work of taking my outdated site and reworking it from one CMS (which is still very good and one I'd like to promote) to the same CMS we will be using at work so I can become more familiar with it. Maybe by the fall or early winter (in the northern hemisphere) I'll actually have an updated site. If you check it out now keep in mind it is on the low end of the priority scale.

PHILOSOPHY

I don't really have one other than trying to treat people as I wish to be treated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I do not have a couch but as soon as I do I will list it. I think it is a cool idea and would like to help others as I hope, when I travel, people will be open to helping me. Until I have a couch to offer I am available in the Charlotte, NC area to take pictures for people who, for whatever reason, do not have a digital camera. I probably won't drive too far for coffee/get-together (at current gas prices) but you can send me a note and I'll consider it if I'm available.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'll be in San Francisco in June for work. I've sent out an email or two to see if anyone from CS would be interested in meeting for coffee or drink while I'm there. No need for a couch this time as work is paying for a hotel.
