About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to be more Zen, to save up $ for a road trip to Colorado.

ABOUT ME

My name's Madeleine, and that's what people call me (no nicknames). I enjoy reading all sorts of books, walking in the woods, riding my bike up intense Santa Cruz hills, figuring out how to make cheap-college-student food taste good, urban exploring, and hanging out with some close friends. Though considered strange, I really enjoy school, and think of it as a (time-consuming) pastime. I haven't chosen a major quite yet, but I know it will have something to do with biology, and getting my hands dirty. Ever summer my parents (both teachers) would take my sister and I on a month long trip, usually road trips across the states to the East Coast, Florida, Canada, etc. I really got the travel bug though when my friend Megan (one of my few friends on this website...) and I backpacked in Europe for a month. We took the trains everywhere, didn't plan much except the several days ahead of us, and joyfully forwent showers, reveling in our own stank. It was the most exciting summer, exploring the true limits of freedom. I can't wait to do it all over again, except somewhere a bit more adventurous. Did anyone say Japan? Cuba maybe? (We'll see in a few years).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Last summer I surfed the couches of some lovely individuals in France, Italy, Netherlands, and Belgium.

Next summer when I'm at home I hope to host. Santa Cruz is lovely, and it would be so much fun to meet some new people and show them around!

Right now I can't offer up any space though, because I am too busy being a student, and therefor would not be able to be a good host in my opinion.

Music, Movies, and Books

As I said I like to read. I read whatever I can get my hands on: James Herriot, Madeleine L'Engle (Namesake!), non-fiction environmental stuff from Jim Merkel and Hunter Lovins, travel books from Sheryl Strayed, Robyn Davidson. This is just to name a few... my reads are sort of eclectic.

Music I like: Animal Collective, Vampire Weekend, Jukebox the Ghost, Big D and the Kids Table, Calvin Harris, Passion Pit, Alvin Band, Baths, Starfucker, Purity Ring, Reptar, and much much more. Woo! I don't often meet people with similar taste in music, but that's cause everyone is crazy (obviously).

Teach, Learn, Share

I will share my art supplies, and we can do a collaboration. I can also help you cook. (If I help you cook, don't let me cook your meat, because I will turn it into rubber, but other then that I'm ok).
