About Me

Using teaching English as a way to travel and see the world! Currently living and working in South Korea. My favorite things to do when traveling are see local architecture, explore the countryside, and get off the beaten path to meet locals and truly experience the culture of whatever country I'm in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To me, my experiences are far more important than my accommodations or forms of transportation. I'd rather save money where I can so I can see more countries and make more memories and connections.

Interests

When I'm home and have the time/money, I like to practice yoga and horseback ride. Otherwise my more current hobbies include film photography, watercolor painting, and studying new languages. I'm fairly fluent in French when I'm using it regularly, have learned a year's worth of Chinese, and am currently picking up Korean as I live in the country. I think "traveling" as an interest goes without saying, haha.

Music, Movies, and Books

When I was younger and had more free time, I devoured any fantasy book I could get my hands on, like Lord of the Rings. Now I don't have as much time to read, but I'm thumbing through the A Song of Ice and Fire series (like everyone else) when I have the time. I like real books and refuse to get a kindle, else I'm sure I'd read a lot more!

I like films with very visual aesthetics. Again, I tend to prefer things in the scifi/fantasy genre. I think Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favorite films of all time.

I'm pretty open to anything musically. Lately I listen to a lot of Lorde, Alt-J, and a variety of electronic music, especially Knife Party.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I suppose I'm in the middle of doing it right now:
In July of 2014, I up and dropped everything and decided I wanted to travel around the world. Now, I'm currently in my second year of teaching in Boseong, South Korea, and have traveled to multiple countries throughout East and Southeast Asia. I intend to work my way across the middle east, into Europe, and finally finish in Morocco.

Teach, Learn, Share

Not really sure what this section is for, but I teach every day! I'm always looking to learn more about other people and their cultures, and love sharing my experiences with others. I kind of live a bit out of the way for most travelers visiting Korea, but it's a truly stunning part of the country that I'd love to share with others. I can introduce you to great local restaurants (Jeollanamdo is known for its food) and take you to the gorgeous sights in the area.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Do you want to learn English? I'm happy to help you study while I stay with you! I'm a certified English teacher and have experience teaching both kids and adults. I'm usually traveling pretty light, but if there's something you want from Korea and we talk before I leave the country, I'd be happy to deliver it for you. I'm not sure what else I could offer unless you come stay at my home sometime!
