One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One moment was this spring when I was in Paris-- some friends and I walked out onto Rue de Rivoli and found huge waves of people walking toward Bastille. We didn't know what was going on so we just followed the crowd, which got thicker and thicker as we approached the Place de la Bastille. By the time we were there we weren't even walking anymore-- just carried along by the crowd! We finally saw, on a Megatron screen across the Place, the face of Francois Hollande, who had just been elected and there, live from Bastille, was making his acceptance speech. Another moment was May 2012 when a friend and I were wandering Jackson, Mississippi, and we happened to walk past a bar where we heard great music coming from inside. We walked in and the tickets were $10 to enter, so we thought, why not? It turned out to be an amazing indie-folk-pop concert that was one of the best shows we'd ever seen, by a band we'd never heard of at the time-- the Lumineers. Later that summer in Chicago we heard this no-name band played on the Top 40's stations, and now I'm hearing their songs all the way in provincial France!
