Hi! I am from Ontario Canada and I will be moving to Rio de Janeiro in December for 6-8 months. My partner is from Rio and lives there, so I am moving to be closer to him and to practise my Portuguese. Unfortunately, because he works so far away from the centre we will not be living together so I am looking for housing recommendations and nice people to hang out with!

More about me: I work a 9-5 job that is remote, but based in Canada. I just graduated from University with a degree in International Development. Most recently I lived in the Hague, Netherlands for 6 months before the pandemic.

I have been to Rio many times and have a basic level of Portuguese so if you are new to the city I may be able to help. If you know the city/language well then you can show me around :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because I quickly learned while traveling that one of the best things in life is meeting new people and learning from them! I have used Couchsurfing before to stay with others, to host others, and to meet up with people.

Interests

When traveling I like to eat food, go to local bars, walk around the city, and meet new people. In Rio I love to go to the beach, drink caipirinha and play cards, and just relax in the sun.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like most music, especially if it is live . Music festivals are my happy place!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was able to complete my University degree while traveling. Throughout my degree, I lived in Canada, Brazil, The US, and the Netherlands. It took me an extra year to graduate but was definitely worth it.
