About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am honest enough with myself to know that I will never be 100% content to stay put, but in the meantime I am going to live my life to its fullest capacity and I am going to do what makes me happy.

ABOUT ME

I spent 2013 traveling the world, and then I settled in Chile for two years. I grew restless with that and needed a change of scenery. A friend I met in India is from Kentucky and she invited me to stay with her for the summer. Nearly a year later I've got a crib in Louisville and I'm settling into life just fine here.

My cat Biscuits and I live in the Highlands, which is a pretty cool, hipster part of Lou. There are lots of good bars and restaurants just a stone's throw away. I'm also not far from a few different parks. This is my favorite neighborhood in Louisville.

PHILOSOPHY

I want to be happy, then I can help others. I've recently realized that I am at my best when I am out traveling, meeting new people, experiencing new things. I know that when I die, whenever that may be, there will still be places I want to see and things I want to do, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't try to accomplish as much as possible and do what makes me happy while I still can. I also really enjoy being creative. Sometimes that's manifested in writing, but most recently I've found my outlet in creating jewelry and knick-knacks from polymer clay.

*** Please note: I get quite a few requests, but unfortunately many of them are blanket requests from people who have not taken the time to read my profile and seem like they are just looking for a free place to crash. That's not what CS is about. So, when sending a request, please mention something, anything from my profile to show that you want to stay with me and not just in my home. (If you tell me a joke your chances of acceptance will sky rocket.) Cheers!**

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

2014-2015 I hosted *so many* couch surfers in Chile (many positive references disappeared with the CS overhaul.) I think from December through February there were maybe two days that I didn't share my apartment. Then CouchSurfing changed the website and the algorithm changed with it, so I stopped getting so many requests for some reason. I kind of tapered off of the CS scene in Santiago, but still use it when traveling. I hosted a bit when I lived in Kentucky, and now I'm in Europe :) I doubt you'll pass through my small town, but if you do, send a message! I might be able to host you; and even if I can't, I'd love to meet up.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Like I said, I hosted quite a bit in Santiago and I've surfed some too. I used to attend as many of the CS events as I could. With the exception of one host in Japan, all my experiences in the CS community have been positive. It's such a great organization and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Books: Favorite book: "In the Time of the Butterflies," Also, anything by Gregory Maguire or Kurt Vonnegut. "11/22/63" (Stephen King) is fantastic! The Hunger Games, The Time Traveler's Wife, The Sirens of Titan, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Harry Potter (obvi)... I could go on for ages.

TV: Love, Easy, Bob's Burgers, Girls, The Mindy Project, The Office, Arrested Development, Futurama, Kimmie Schmidt, True Blood...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Iguazu Falls. "Amazing" and "awesome" are overused, but Iguazu is both of these. It's a huge waterfall that borders Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. I only visited the Argentina side, but I didn't feel like I missed out. It was so impressive.

There are so many other "amazing" things, I've done, though. Stay with me and I can regale you with stories.

Teach, Learn, Share

There's a difference between being wary and being scared, between being carefree and being careless. It's a good idea to take a cab to the host in an unfamiliar city if you arrive after dark; it's not a good idea to never leave your hometown because you're afraid of what might happen. You've gotta take risks to be successful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Jokes. I've got so many jokes :)
