About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I guess it's a mix of wanting to go everywhere (seriously. Everywhere.) and do something good in the world.
ABOUT ME
These things are always so tough to do. I'm a traveler and a writer, I love to read and listen to music, I'm involved in Amnesty International, I don't mind having a good time, I've literally gone around the world (as in walked out my front door and, 104 days later, walked back in on the other side), My next five destinations (ideally) are Argentina, Peru, New Zealand, Thailand, and Kenya, my next five destinations (realistically) are Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, and Brazil.
I like to trade stories and I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm a movie fan and love pretty much all food.
The single thing that occupies all of my thoughts, though, is travel. I love it. Even when I hate it, I love it.
PHILOSOPHY
I live by this quote:
"I wake to sleep and take my waking slow
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear,
I learn by going where I have to go."
-Theodore Roethke
I try to accept change as it comes as gracefully as I can (and I've never been a graceful person). I try my best to view the world through "ubuntu," the Zulu concept that declares "I am because we are." I like to think that this gives me both autonomy as an individual and responsibility as a member of humanity and the universe. Also, it helps me to recognize the humanity of people that I may dismiss otherwise.

Music, Movies, and Books
Any movie that is well made or well acted or well shot or entertaining (as long as it isn't schlock that's being made for the sole purpose of making money cough cough Jerry Bruckheimer).
Books: The Satanic Verses, anything by Kurt Vonnegut, everything by Hunter S. Thompson, Catch-22, most Chuck Palahniuk, most Gabriel Garcia Marquez, A Scanner Darkly, anything by Cormac McCarthy, anything that is set in the places I've been and loved, etc.
Music: Changes from time to time, but in the past I've liked music in the genres of Classic Rock, Rock, Pop, Rap, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Alternative, Acoustic Alternative, Metal, Hard Rock, and Folk.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I interviewed Nobel Peace Laureate Desmond Tutu. That was cool.
