About Me

Hi!
My name is Maia, I'm from the high hills of Wales where I grew up and was home educated.
I have lead a very quiet life up until a few years ago when I met my boyfriend and ever since we have been saving up to go traveling and to university.
Sadly I can't at the moment afford the money to Validate my account as I am saving for university and a house which is cripplingly expensive. I hopefully will be able to in the future but for now I hope that I have filled out my profile enough for people to gather that I am a reliable, trustworthy, friendly and honest person.
I have traveled quite a bit before to France, Italy, Greece and Morocco while also having explored a lot of my local countryside.
I will soon be going to university in Brighton to study Ecology which I am extremely excited about!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the idea of meeting new people from across the world, something that is a lot harder to do when you are staying in a hotel!
Since staying in hostels in Morocco I have been extremely keen to start staying with locals as it gives you such an amazing insight into the town/country you are visiting while also meeting some amazing people who your would never have met before!
I am also a poor student who lacks the funds but none of the passion and desire for travel and exploration.
I would love to be able to open my house for people to come and stay in the beautiful landscape that I live in but I still live with my parents (Late flying the nest!) and I'm not sure they would be as enthusiastic as me for opening my house up! Perhaps one day!!
At the moment of setting up this account I am about to travel to Brighton to try and find my boyfriend and I a house to rent for university, we traveled down before to find one but sadly were let down so we're making the 12hr journey again but currently have no where to stay down there, I am hoping this lovely website might be able to assist us but if not I look forward to couchsurfing more internationally in the future!!
(**Note - For some reason my profile has recorded my age as 82, I'm not I'm 20! Can't seem to work out how to change it or why it's done that**

Music, Movies, and Books

Hmm, that's a hard one!
I love all sorts of music, although I suppose some of my favourites include Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons, First Aid Kit, Guns n Roses, Slipknot, T-Rex, Prince, David Bowie, Sisters of Mercy, Donovan, Fairport Convention and Led Zepplin.

As for films I am extremely interested in historical costumes, so love a film with a great costume designer on board. Pride and Prejudice, Crimson Peak, Watership Down, Lord of the Rings, Pan's Labyrinth, A Good Year and The East.

Books is even harder! Although my all time favourite is Watership Down, a book that changed me and influences so much of my life, cannot recommend this enough to anyone who hasn't read it (Don't believe the people that say it's full of 'bunnies being murdered horribly', it's not, it's an extremely complex book and saying that's a bit like telling everyone The Hobbit is about someone 'going for a stroll'!). Another favourite is Waters of the Wonderous Isles by William Morris and anything by Michael Moorcock.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveled to Morocco with my boyfriend and three friends. Safe to say I didn't want to come home!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am quite a quiet person by nature but I am extremely friendly and outgoing, I love talking to people about their (or my) passions and things that make them excited or curious and I love hearing peoples own stories about their lives and experiences.
I love cooking and making people food as a way to repay peoples kindness or simply as a way to give them a nice surprise! I love sharing recipes and ideas.
I am also more than happy to help around the house if anything needs doing, sometimes little jobs need two pairs of hands!
I love sharing good books I have found, excellent films and interesting bits of music!
