About Me

Hello! I'm Maia and I am super excited to be on here!
I grew up in New Hampshire and Massachusetts on the East Coast of the USA.
I am fascinated by history and learning about other cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am not a fantastic writter, so I will share some of my favorite quotes from writers more eloquent with words to help explain how I feel.

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller

“If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.” – James Michener

"Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends."
-Maya Angelou

"Please be a traveler, not a tourist. Try new things, meet new people, and look beyond what's right in front of you. Those are the keys to understanding this amazing world we live in."
-Andrew Zimmern

"A tourist doesn't know where they have been. A traveller doesn't know where they are going."

Music, Movies, and Books

-Music-
Lots of different genres! Only thing I do not enjoy is some American Country music and some Screamo. Some of artists I like are: Cage the Elephant, Grandson, K.Flay, Kai Straw, The Beatles, Nirvana, Halsey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and on and on it goes!

-Books-
The Book Thief (made me cry so hard but so beautifully written), Little Women, The Hunger Games, Redwall, Harry Potter, Pride & Prejudice

-Movies-
Big Fish, Amélie, Little Miss Sunshine, Wall-E, Hamilton, Wes Anderson films

-TV Shows-
Breaking Bad, GoT, The Durrels in Corfu, Better Call Saul, Peaky Blinders

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Watched the horse race during the Palio de Siena in Italy
-Saw a leopard seal in the wild
-Watched a sea turtle laying eggs
-Bathed in a Viking thermal swimming pool where temperature is only controlled by moving a rock
-Got landed on by tons of cockatoos in Sydney

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to learn more about your travels and your culture and view on the world around you. I will listen to what you have to say and learn from it. I would like to learn any language I possibly can. I will share my good stories, sense of humor, a drink or meal and dances!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach you how to dance fusion or blues, tell you about treasure hunting, vegetarian food, costuming.

Good conversation, some funny stories, teach you how to dance blues or fusion, teach you about treasure hunting, share my knowledge on vegetarianism, show you about costuming.

I would love to adventure or grab food or a drink with a local, but I can just as easily be independant and stay out of your hair.

I'm respectful, fun-loving, curious, social and a bunch of fun (at least I have been told!).

I believe in putting good energy back into the world and have an upbeat attitude.
