ABOUT ME
After managing to leave Cuba to do a master's degree in Madrid, I settled in Spain as a journalist. I worked there until 2009 when decided to put my stuff in storage and left for New Zealand (the farthest away I could go). There I first heard about backpackers and couchsurfers. I spent one year there improving my English, working as a nanny, travelling, meeting people and trying food from all over the world. On top of that I met my boyfriend with whom I have shared all the couchsurfing experiences.
I will never forget the first one, in New Orleans (while we waited for the arrival of our host outside the house, we could not stop laughing imagining all sorts of embarrasing situations, neighbours recording us from their windows, candid cameras...). Since then we have met extraordinary people, in Mexico next and Morocco later.
After one year of working hard in England, we are about to embark on probably the most exciting adventure of my life, travel in South America for a year and be able to write the day by day.
We are leaving England on August 26th.
PHILOSOPHY
I have some principles and I try my best to live up to them. I do not trust in any ideas, principles or reasons that are not coming from emotions. I do not follow any advice but can hardly ever make up my mind (too many options, too many paths to choose from).
I try to be honest with myself and live my life the way I think I should, sometimes I see the glass half-full, sometimes half-empty. Lively (much better outside European borders), sincere and generous. As I am getting old, I have started to feel lost in the search of myself, the right place to live and a decent place to work.
I enjoy learning from others but never end up learning from my mistakes (the same again and again). As many Cubans of my generation I still do not know what I want in life (an endemic problem in Cuba) but I have some notions of my dislikes.
I can not promise heaven and earth but laughs and long conversations can be taken for granted.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
When I eventually settle somewhere I hope to repay all the kindness received. At the moment I think we will be up for hanging around anywhere else in South America or give some tips and useful information about Cuba, New Zealand, Spain (particularly Madrid and Malaga), England (Kent, Southeast) or Thailand (Peter lived there for two years).
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far so good. Hope I can give the same back in the not so distant future.
