My name is Maiia (I can go by Maya, that's how it sounds actually). I was born in Siberia but moved to the gorgeous city of Saint Petersburg.
Currently, I am a student of Saint Petersburg State University, aspiring to get a bachelor degree in Liberal Arts. I am majoring in literature and planning to continue my studies in this field.
I've been vegan for 3 years now and I am quite passionate about my lifestyle yet it never stopped me from getting along with people or exploring the world.
Traveling has always been a passion of mine, but as a student, I don't have a possibility to travel as frequently as I would want to, but I try to make the most out of it.
I'm generally interested in lit theory, linguistics, philosophy of language. I'm now expanding my knowledge of feminism, politics, social and cultural studies. I enjoy writing, walking around for a long time, nicely curated museums, some fresh fruit, affordable travels, some nice or not so nice wine, and of course meeting new inspiring people, sharing knowledge and obtaining the unique experiences.
I'm more than happy to get a chance to talk about my travels or study abroad experience (I've lived in upstate New York for 6 months), Russian politics, education, Jewish culture or whatever you fancy.
I've lived in Saint Petersburg for a while now, so I'm always excited to help you to explore this city as a local would.

I truly believe that no matter how many borders were built in between, us humans can create a friendly and open global society, as people with good intentions are pretty much the same everywhere. I like the idea of Couchsurfing as it not only gives possibilities for people to travel but allows them to truly integrate into the different cultures and meet more or less like-minded locals.
I've been traveling on my own not for the longest time for now yet it already showed me the surprising amount of human kindness, and it's truly fascinating. My travel experiences teach me to be less judgmental, more opened up, trusting to whatever life brings. I'm thankful for all the wonderful times I had with different people showing me around, hosting me or helping me out, and I aspire to be like them.

I can teach Russian easily, give lectures on Russian linguistics and literature, tell a lot about Russia: current political situation or history in general. I also can share knowledge about jewish culture and jewish studies. I'm quite passionate about veganism, but no pressure here.
I will be grateful for every kind of knowledge, always excited to learn couple of words in new language or some facts about the culture I'm exploring. Also will be really happy to learn some tips on the best local places in the area.

Can easily veganize any kind of meal or cook you something from the Russian cuisine. Will be more than happy to bring souvenirs from my country. And I will be definitely taking you out for coffee or breakfast. Or at least getting us fruit and wine.
I'm a tidy person, I get along with people easily, though I may be a bit quiet at first. I'll be always there for you during my stay or during our times together, and we will work things out the way that is going to be the most comfortable for all of us.
