About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning about the mind

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Bavaria, trained as a baker, then studied science in Ireland, Switzerland and UK, worked in Lausanne as a baker, which I loved, and now study again, being in Brighton, doing a PhD on consciousness science. I love running and swimming at Brighton beach at the moment, reading good texts on all topics, staying curious and motivated to discover something interesting wherever I am and whatever I do. I am living here with my girlfriend.

PHILOSOPHY

Learn, share, create!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Host, surf and meet people for activities.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only had positive experiences with couchsurfing and think the idea is great. There is so much good in people, let's all try to be friends.

Interests

Discovering beautiful places and thoughts. Trying to inspire others by asking interesting questions. I also love vegetarian food, outdoor activities (especially beach-volley, swimming, running, hiking, but up for anything else as well), feeling productive and useful.

Music, Movies, and Books

Book: Consciousness: Confessions of a Romantic Reductionist

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking over remote hills in Ireland, swimming at lonely beaches in Brazil, sharing all these moments with people I love.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can introduce you to scientific consciousness research, i.e. how one might explain that a system - such as the human brain - feels something at all, as opposed to feeling nothing, like a stone. It's this inner mental life that we loose each day when we fall into dreamless sleep, that I find ill-understood yet so fundamental for us. Without sentience, nothing has meaning.

I can also show you how to bake a tasty white-bread at home in a few minutes without any hassle.

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
