Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Study music and its relationship with social transformation. Interview cool people. Make more art
ABOUT ME
Really in transition right now! We ditched San Diego in favor of Descanso, CA-- 45 minutes to the east, nestled in the mountains. Our property abutts the Cleveland National Forest and the Sweetwater River, so you can literally walk out of our backyard and into the wilds. We have 3 goats, and a bunch of chickens.
We're excited to be students at UCSD, where Adam's studying experimental music, improvisation, music cognition, and music technology. His work stretches across the sonic arts from sound design for dance and theater to sound art, composition, and performance in improvised and popular genres. Recordings on Future Folk Records (www.futurefolkrecords.com), as well as self-released at Creosota.bandcamp.com (glitch-folk/electro-primitive) and Theshade.info (psych/jujugaze/Cali-Mali desert blues)
Currently taking a term off from school to travel and learn about other musical traditions of the world.
PHILOSOPHY
Live as happily as you can in as much harmony as possible with beauty, the earth, and other people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We've spent a fair amount of time surfing, and love the community on CS. We're excited to host more people, especially as we get deeper roots in the community and our schedules free up in school!
People we've met through CS have been some of the most giving, generous, and fun people ever. Why wouldn't we want to surround ourselves with members of this community?
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We spent an awesome semester couch surfing, another couple of roadtrips riding the couches, and now try to surf on most trips we go on. We rep couch surfing to everyone we meet. It is really the future of travel.
Interests
Art and music (enjoying and creating it), good food (eating it and cooking it), hiking, farming (especially milking our goats), exploring, smiling a lot. Mostly though, we're into checking out different places, wandering the streets, and experiencing all the different things the world has to offer.

Music, Movies, and Books
The Wind Up Bird Chronicles by Haruki Murakami. It will blow you away.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We went to Europe six years ago, and hiked a small chunk of the West Highland Way in Scotland. We were without map or proper supplies (no camping allowed) and were hiking the trail backwards from what is recommended. We got hopelessly lost and off the trail, found our way back, only to get stuck in rain, wind, and hail the next day. We caught the last ferry to civilization that would have been available for miles just as the sun was threatening to set, and happened upon a woman who worked at a snack shop (the only person around for quite a ways) who offered to drive us into town. It was an awesome physical and mental challenge, and a great example of how luck, strength, nature, and the kindness of strangers can come together. Oh, and we learned to always be prepared. Duh.
Teach, Learn, Share
Things we can share:
Adam can play a mean guitar, pedal steel, mandolin, banjo, saxophone, and bass clarinet. He also works with all sorts of electronic and computer based music making programs and devices, and would love to show you around on them.
Jess can teach you how to pickle, tell you about the current state of psychology research, and will play Scrabble with anyone around.
