About Me

I am a person in search for cultural experiences, language learning and new friendships.

I am usually a calm and relaxed person, at least for the brazilian standards hehehe

I am curious about how things work, whether it is the universe, a city or a culture. Some people say I am a geek, although I know I do not fit in every criteria for it. What I can say is that I am the type of person that reads about the places I am going, and looks for hints that are not on the touristic points. I think they also consider me a geek because I am a engineer, but that's only a title for me. Anyway, I am not good with labels.

Some of the things I am most interested in: urbanism, urban cycling, climate change, cultural differences, history, outdoor activities, meditation and literature.

I like enjoying simple things. I love cafes, picnics, walking and cycling. I like beer, wine, tea and coffee at the same level. I am more of a day outdoor person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To find out how other people live and think in different cultures! And to get to know myself through that!

When I am couchsurfing, the most important is to go with the natural flow of the house and the hosts, and to learn and share somehow. I am open to whatever comes. Some hosts like having dinner together, are very curious about me, others just want to help someone with shelter. Some became great friends and come visit me in Brazil, others are just people who passed by my life and left great memories. No matter what, we can always connect and exchange something!

Book: Dom Casmurro by Machado de Assis, one of the greatest books ever, so subtle and open to personal interpretation!

Movies: I have to confess that when I feel sad I always re-watch Eat Pray Love hehehe

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Scary: hitchhiking with truck drivers in California
Beautiful: Baloon ride in Kapadokia
Adventurous: Beer picnic in a safari

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share a little about brazilian culture, such as books, musik, movies, language, and travel tips.

I also like sharing my perspective and crazy theories about life, and I can never get enough perspectives, since each person that comes in my life changes me in a way.

I am very interested in Urban Life and how people gather and live in different countries...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can definitely bring some souvenir from my city.

I like keeping open communication with my hosts, so that they can be honest and tell me whether I should bring food, towels, sheets or some contribution.

I think it is important to align expectations: some hosts like the idea of having dinner together, making friends, some just will not have time or they just want to help someone with a place to spend the night, in which case I would be less talkative. There is no right-or-wrong, just come as you are and offer what you can. It is not about having a fancy place or being the best host, the simple act of opening your house is already a beautiful act of empathy.

The only thing I really do not accept is harassment. I totally support sexual freedom and I know many people have good experiences on Couchsurfing with sexual involvement, but in my experience even polite attempts made me feel uncomfortable at the house later. Not to mention I am married.

Polite attempts will cause unnecessary embarrassment, and harassment will be reported.
