About Me

I am an idealistic 18 year old girl who cries when watching Mary Poppins and who find myself in a similar position than hers as I am au pairing three boys in La Spezia, Italy. I am enthusiastic, passionate, friendly, positive and always willing to lend a hand. I am at a stage in my life where I am searching for a bit a bit of truth, hence the gap year, and because of that I am open to the new and a sponge for adventure! One of the random things I can share is that honesty is one of my biggest qualities and I am always trying to be sincere toward myself and toward others. I am extroverted, irritably possitive sometimes and constantly in a day dream.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am currently using it to meet new friends as I very soon after leaving home realised that I really NEEED friends in my life and unfortunately there are not many english speaking people in my area.

Interests

Watching musicals have always been somewhat of a tradition in our family and musical theatre is one of the things in life that makes me childishly excited. It is weirdly common to find someone delivering a passionate solo in our living room at home or for my sister and I to dance wildly in the kichen on music bellowing through the entire house! Laughing and talking with people leaves me fulfilled and defnitely gives me energy, especially if they are new! Sharing a good meal with new people is even better ( my family is half Portuguese which means that eating and making food is one of my favourite activities).
I have recently met 6 other au pairs in my area and it is beyond my comprehension that all of us have come from different countries with totally different ideas about, well everything!! As I mentioned I love to read and have a particular love for children's stories because of that I have decided to write a story while on my travels. Other than children stories, I am passionate about history and different cultures and how things are and were done in completely different ways than what we are used to in our own bubbles.
I have recently discovered the joy of hiking and am already longing for the harmony of the smell of the mountain's shadow, the unlimited serenity and the good feeling of actually exercising and using my body to bring me to a longed for destination. As for my interest in learning new skills, I love the idea of learning and would be happy to learn about anything interesting that someone who is well advanced in that skill can teach me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I wanted to take one of the mountain hiking paths between Riomaggoro and Manarola, but it was so difficult to find. I probably circled Riomaggoro thrice in search of the apparent route 501 that is suppose to start near the castle. After a while I became so frustrated that I typed in Manarola on my phone and started hiking next to the high way. It turned out to be beautifully green and so peaceful as there were almost no cars. The road also had some unexpected routes on its sides which led to beautiful rock stairways overgrown with moss passing through orchards of olive trees and wild bush. It was absolutely stunning. Before coming into Manorola I had to run through a short tunnel and descend the hill through a dense private orchard. In Manorola I ate the best Gelato of mankind, peed under a lemon tree with a view of the clocktower; the setting sun on the coloured houses and the sparkling sea and watched the last bit of sun slip into the salt water from the edge of the rocks. It was a true adventure.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about music and know how to play the flute. I also have a lot of experience with children.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have much experience with kids and can easily entertain them. I can cook and will be glad to prepare some South African dishes for my hosts. I can also just be a general helping hand and will be glad to help with any cleaning or light hand labour. I can also promise friendliness and gratitude from my side:)
