About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See the world. Save the world.

ABOUT ME

Med student, choir singer, anatomy teacher. I love everything international and try to travel as much as I can. My friends say that I am very social, and I hope they are right because I love meeting new people, learning about other cultures and ways of living, and sharing experiences with other people.

Originally from Hudiksvall (east coast, mid Sweden), but currently living in Linköping as I started studying medicine at Linköping University (top ranked in Sweden) in 2013. There, I met my boyfriend Marcus within a few months of the first semester. We've been inseparable ever since and got a spacey 3 room apartment together in 2015.

I sing in an all female choir, which for me is one of the best ways to clear my mind after a long day of school. Marcus sings in an all male choir, and we've done many projects together, my favorite being Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.

ABOUT MARCUS
CS profile: https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/2006036696
Marcus is 5 days younger than me (*evil laugh*). So, now that you know the most important part, let me tell you more. Marcus is the nicest person I've ever met, and our friends agree. He studies medicine just like me, and will graduate June 2018. This summer (2017) will be his last summer break before starting to work as a physician, and we are cherishing those weeks by going on a big road trip to USA. Marcus is from the most southern part of Sweden, so his accent is kind of funny. He is inspiring me everyday to become a healthier and better version of myself, not by telling me what to do and what not to, but by setting a great example for me. He has the discipline of a military soldier, the memory of an elephant and the heart of Mother Theresa.

PHILOSOPHY

We are Christians, and the things we believe the most is that love conquers everything and that everyone has the same value. No matter what gender, background, sexuality, religion, ethnicity or whatever reason one could be different from another, we are all the same. I am struggling with the ones who disagree with me, such as people who think that God does not approve of homosexuality, but I am working on it. I strongly believe that they are wrong, but I am working on thinking that they too have the same value as the rest.

I also believe that we all have a responsibility to try to make the world a nice place. It could be everything from recycling to aiding the ones in need to smiling to the old lady across the street.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am quite new to this page, so I do not have any experiences so far. It was my close friends Ylva (http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/ylva.carlsson/) and Kalle (http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/karlholmberg/) who recommended this site after using it on their journey by bike from Sweden to Africa. They have told me so many stories about couchsurfing that I can't wait to try it myself!

I tried Couchsurfing when I went to Australia in 2013, and it was a great experience to stay with a local. I also stayed with a coworker that was not on Couchsurfing, but the whole experience of the trip is somehow intensified when you get to know the locals and live where they live. I have also participated in several foreign exchanges with school, so living with a host family/hosting someone is nothing new.

Interests

I love to travel. It is probably something I got from my parents, my family has traveled a lot since I was very young. It has made me very interested in different cultures, languages (don't even get me started on languages!), food, nature... I guess it has also played a part in my interest in the environment. The world is just too beautiful to go to waste. I think hiking is a great way to experience the nature.

I am also quite a nerd. I love science and can often be found discussing some crazy idea to a fellow nerd, everything from home made cold fusion to a cure for cancer. Right now I am especially interested in biology and medicine. I am seriously considering going to med school. Being a doctor could definitely be my dream job.

Other than that, I love music. I sing in a few choirs. I am a rookie thai boxer, a sport I have come to love. Although, I am not planning to actually compete in it. I don't want to hurt anyone! During the winter I like to go skiing, preferably down hill. Speed is fun. During the summer I like to take long walks on the cliffs by the sea, the archipelago around here is amazing. Me and my friends can walk and talk for hours.
Oh, and I like tea. When you live in a country that gets this dark during the winter, there is nothing better than a good friend, lit candles and tea.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the coolest things I've done was actually hiking in the Swedish mountains (the "fjäll") for a few days. The scenery is truly stunning, with raindeers walking around and springs with fresh water everywhere. It is amazing to have that kind of nature so close to home.

Other cool things I've seen and done includes holding an alligator in the Everglades, climbing volcanos on Gran Canaria and Santorini, visiting a concentration camp outside Munich (that was however not fun at all, but incredibly important to see), won a Sweden - Spain football/soccer game (with school, but still), getting stuck in a Nasa Space Shuttle simulator at Kennedy Space Center, surviving a month as camp leader for Spanish seven year old kids in Andalucía, interrailing Europe...

Med school is amazing most days.

Teach, Learn, Share

As my friend Ylva said: Teach me your language and I'll teach you mine! I also know a bit Spanish and even less French, but I'm happy to share the little I know.

I can teach you how to ski in the winter, and in the summer I will take you out in the forest to gather bilberries to make a classic Swedish bilberry pie!

I love cooking and would gladly cook dinner for potential hosts.
