Présentation
À propos de moi
Hi! I am Maja. I am 19, from Poland, currently studying in the US at Stanford University.
I love discovering other cultures and meeting people from all over the world, as it's a) great fun, and b) fuels my internal debate on the nature vs nurture, and whether there's anything innate in the self, or is it all structured and moulded by the society, culture, and circumstances. How much of myself is really myself, and how much is a result of social conditioning? I have no idea, but I'd love to talk about it.
I'm interested in philosophy and literature, but I also love STEM, most notably space medicine - I'm a fan of dissecting both arguments and organs. I also unironically love bad horror movies, especially slashers.

To meet great people, discover new cultures and languages, share adventures. I love unique, spontaneous things and try to live through as many unique experiences as possible (they make for excellent writing inspiration, and I like my journals overflowing with prose!).

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
Movies: The more absurd, the better. "Cry-Baby" (1999) has my heart, while a very bad Polish movie titled "All my friends are dead" (2020) has everything else, including the spleen. I also love "The Cabin in The Woods" and "Better Watch Out". When it comes to TV shows, "The Boys", "Don't trust the B- in apartment 23", and "Why Women Kill" (but only the first season!).
Books: "The Frankenstein" (1818) by Mary Shelley. I swear by this book! It's universal in its exploration of the human condition, parenthood (and godhood), nature vs nurture debate, morality. Beautifully written, too. I was also very moved by the "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" (1978) when I first read it. Currently, I'm on my quest to go through all the classics, starting from Graves's "Greek Myths" compendium; I am also finishing "The Uncensored Picture of Dorian Gray", all while being stuck in the middle of "The Well-Educated Mind".
Music: Bohemian Rhapsody all the way. And Disney songs.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
Ice swimming! There's something sublime about submerging yourself in extremely cold waters and surpassing all your limits. Honestly, the first time I ice swam, I felt like my entire existence reduced itself to that very moment, to the snowflakes falling on my cheeks (and my brain going "shit, it's cold, shit shit shit, aaah"). The feeling of achievement and satisfaction you get after are second to none.

Learn: I want to learn how to cook basic dishes from your culture! And how to dance (although a fair warning, my terrible motor coordination may make that quite difficult)
Teach: I can teach you all about space medicine, which is the study of how the human body reacts to the conditions of space flight! And when it comes to terrestrial matters, I'm an expert in finding cosy cafes, procrastinating on deadlines, and creating over the top eyeliner makeups.
Share: the adventure!
