About Me

I'm a student from California (University of California, Davis) currently studying abroad at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. I study sociology, political science, and human rights. I would like to take advantage of the experience of being abroad by meeting fun and inspiring people, gaining new perspectives, and by getting out of my comfort zone as much as possible.

I'm new to couchsurfing so I don't have many references but give me a chance! You won't regret it!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy the company of others and I believe the best way to see a city is by the advice of locals. I would prefer to see the hidden gems of a city over the tourist traps.

What really pushed me to join though was attending my first couch surfing event with a friend in Amsterdam where a lovely local couple took a bunch of us out on their boat to the countryside where we had an afternoon picnic. I loved the opportunity to talk to people from so many different parts of the world and seeing how welcoming and giving the hosts were was inspiring. Those were some of the best vibes I've ever experienced, it was truly "gezellig". I hope couch surfing will provide me with many more experiences like this one!

Interests

I love discovering music, both new and old. I make playlists for every season so I can look back and see what I was interested in and what moods I was in at certain times in my life. I'm always interested in both giving and receiving music recommendations. I'm also very fond of maps, especially vintage maps, and could get lost gazing at them for hours.

Music, Movies, and Books

My taste in music is very diverse. I grew up listening to a wide range of music thanks to my older siblings from rap to metal to country. Some of my current favorite genres are indie R&B, dancehall, and trap.

I prefer my movies to be funny and I'll most likely watch anything Judd Apatow is a part of. I also like watching movies from the 90s because childhood nostalgia.

I'm currently reading Yes Please by Amy Poehler and Harry Potter and the Seven Deathly Hallows.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I travelled to rural Panama last summer with an organization called Human Rights Brigades, which works with local lawyers to provide free legal clinics for the community. It was such an amazing experience to meet the people of the Darien region and to see and participate in a way of life so completely different from my own. I also learned a lot during this trip about economic, racial, and gender inequalities that you can't fully understand in the classroom alone. I know I'm just one person but I'd like to think that while I was there I was able to play a small role in overcoming obstacles to justice.

One amazing thing I'd like to do is swim with a whale shark. I just have to conquer my fear of the ocean first!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Northern California slang words, if you're so inclined. They're kind of fun to say.

I also speak hindi if anyone would like to learn some phrases. It's a very pretty language. The script is even prettier, if you'd like to see what you're name looks like written in it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Laughs. I love good banter.
