About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to travel hopefully

ABOUT ME

I'm a student at SUNY Geneseo, studying International Relations, History, and Anthropology. I'm currently studying abroad in Istanbul and having the time of my life. I'm going to be graduating college soon and am probably further away than ever from knowing what I want to do with my life, but I'd like to think that's the point. I think I was bitten by the travel bug when I was about five and my parents bought me a world map puzzle. I put it together all the time and wondered about all the places shown on the map. 16 years later I'm still wondering but have finally started to find some answers :)

PHILOSOPHY

"Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1 John 3:16-18

"It is not enough to rage against the lie, you have to replace it with the truth." Bono

Make fun of me all you want for quoting Bono, but it's a good quote.

"There's no excuse to be bored. Sad, yes. Angry, yes. Depressed, yes. Crazy, yes. But there is no excuse for boredom, ever." Viggo Mortensen

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet, but I can't wait to start surfing and hosting!

Interests

I'm really into music, playing it, listening to it, and experiencing it live. I love reading and can't go more than a day without writing in my journal, and I love the outdoors - hiking, camping, swimming, running, or just taking random walks. I also really enjoy learning about pretty much everything, so if you know anything cool, share it with me, especially if it's about black holes.

Music, Movies, and Books

Two of my favorite things in life are books and music.

I don't really have one specific genre of music I listen to - I'll listen to anything once, but the best songs are the ones that are filled with passion and originality. I also have a soft spot in my heart for '90s pop and Turkpop.

Currently enjoying: Hanson, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Keane, Counting Crows, Bill Withers, Johnny Cash, Bob Schneider, Alanis Morissette, Andrew W.K., Arcade Fire, the Beach Boys, Beck, the Cranberries, Debussy, Dire Straits, Doobie Brothers, Elvis, Enter the Haggis, Flogging Molly, Iron & Wine, Jeff Buckley, John Mayer, Led Zeppelin, the Libertines, Loreena McKennitt, Mason Jennings, Muse, O.A.R. (older stuff), the Grease soundtrack, select Disney songs, Paolo Nutini, Pete Yorn, the Police, Sting, Rage Against the Machine, the White Stripes, Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, Sublime, Tarkan

As for books, my favorite genres are historical fiction and literary page-turners, but I like anything that teaches me something and gives me a new way to experience the world. I also really enjoy all kinds of mythology.

Some of my favorites are: anything by Tolkien, Wuthering Heights, The Name of the Rose, The Way of the Human Being, Indians in Overalls, Hamlet, 1984, the Nautical Chart, A Song of Ice and Fire, Things Fall Apart

Right now I'm reading the Unbearable Lightness of Being and it's pretty cool.
