Learning to live in the now
ABOUT ME
I love traveling, learning, experiencing different cultures, trying new things, meeting new people, communicating with people in their native tongue, going with the flow, playing football, making people laugh, lounging on the beach, watching movies, and playing video games. I dislike describing myself, arrogant people, awkward pauses, being bored, mosquitoes, tabouli, and people who take themselves too seriously.
PHILOSOPHY
So in the end, was it worth it? Jesus Christ. How irreparably changed my life has become. It's always the last day of summer and I've been left out in the cold with no door to get back in. I'll grant you I've had more than my fair share of poignant moments. Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it. Throughout my lifetime I've left pieces of my heart here and there and now there's barely enough to stay alive. But I force a smile, knowing that my ambition far exceeded my talent. There are no more white horses or pretty ladies at my door.
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I am a CS virgin no more! Someone recently explained to me that Egyptians, for better or worse, have the habit of offering less-than-genuine compliments. For example, upon learning where someone is from, some Egyptians are prone to reflexively respond, "ahsan nas" (the best people). I say that only to contrast my first CS experience, during which I met two of the truly best people Egypt has to offer: Meto and Gamal. From the moment I met them near the train station to the moment Jimmy dropped me back off two days later, these guys went out of their way to show me a great time. They showed me the sights, sounds, and flavors of Alexandria that I never would have experienced on my own. I could not have drawn up a better weekend trip. Thanks to CS for giving us this wonderful opportunity to connect with others from around the world and thanks to Meto and Jimmy for ensuring that my first CS experience was one to remember. These guys truly are "ahsan nas."
