We, Malu (short for Maria Luisa) and Luan, love to travel, but we both haven't done as much traveling as we would like... yet! We have always been busy working, and moved from Brazil to New Zealand also to work for a couple of years as environmental engineers (which has already turned into more than 4 years). We have both recently quit our jobs and I have started a new career as a freelance environmental consultant as well as a technical translator so that I can be location independent. We're currently building our own campervan to travel around New Zealand next Spring/Summer, so that we can explore as much as we can of this beautiful island.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We had seen some posts about CS from a backpacker friend, and then decided to try it on our trip to Wellington, and loved it! It's a great way to meet new people and hear about different places and different cultures. Since then we hosted a few people in our house, but stopped when some friends came to live with us.

At the moment we are about to go travelling for a while, so have no idea when we might have a permanent home and be able to start hosting again.

Interests

We like being in contact with nature, going to the beach, surfing (him - since he was a little boy, me - still trying to stand up on the board), biking, tramping, skiing (when there is snow and deals on lift passes!), and also enjoying good things the nice cities have to offer, nice bars and restaurants, good music, interesting historic places, parks, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

We both like classic rock (Queen and Led Zeppelin are some of Malu's favourites, while Luan says he likes "good music", especially music from before the 80's), we love MPB (popular Brazilian music - Caetano, Gilberto Gil, Alceu Valença, Marisa Monte, Rita Lee, oh so many...) Luan also enjoys jazz and blues, and Malu likes a bit of heavy metal (not all bands, but Metallica, yesss!!!)
We love movies in general, all kinds, just depends on the movie really. Some of our favourite series are Game of Thrones, Friends, That 70's Show, The Get Down, Sense8, The Crown... we probably watch too much Netflix (or did anyway, as we're soon about to go travelling for a while and our TV and living room are mostly gone...)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We got married at the beach in New Zealand, over the sand and under a beautiful sunshine. We have also been to some amazing places, but the most recent amazing thing we just did was quit our jobs and start building a campervan to travel around New Zealand... Will have some amazing updates next summer :-)

Teach, Learn, Share

Luan loves cooking tips, he is the better cook and Malu has been learning from him (and getting better!).
We also love to find out what locals do in places we visit, not just what tourists do. We're currently converting our own campervan and acquiring some new skills along the way, so might be able to share and help with them in the future.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Luan could maybe cook something, Malu could help with something in the house, cleaning, anything. If hosts are interested, we can also teach a little Portuguese. If our campervan turns out nice, in the future we could share some of our converting skills as well.
