Resumen
Sobre mí
Hello!
We are Manca and Manca (yes, we have the same name :D), two 21-year-old students from Slovenia.
We love travelling, learning about other cultures, eating good food and meeting new friends.
We are friendly, openminded and we like having conversations while drinking a cup of coffee (big coffee lovers here!).
If you want to know more about each of us please keep reading. :)
Hello there!
This is Manca from the left side. :)
I am a 21 year old born in Slovenia – one of the smallest countries in Europe – and raised in a village right under the Alps. I am a mix of many things – sometimes loud and full of energy, other times quieter and more introspective – but always happy to pack my bags and take off on a journey of a lifetime. I wish the world to be my teacher; I want to experience different cultures first hand and learn valuable lessons from the people I meet on the way. :)
I am currently a second year university student who studies laboratory medicine. I am in love with my major! It is a perfect mixture of medicine and science and enables me to connect many academic fields such as clinical biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, genetics, human anatomy and pathology, chemistry, informatics, immunology, analytical methods and many more. I also have laboratory experience as a result of my studies.
There are many things that interest me and hobbies I enjoy:
• Reading
I have loved books since I was little. I read different genres of books (biographies, fantasy novels, science fiction, romance, classics or poetry, you name it!) and love talking about them with my friends.
• Writing
From journaling to writing short stories – I have tried it all before. While I usually write for myself, there are some writings of mine I have shared with others. I also write articles for an online platform.
• Nature and animals
I enjoy being outside – I love picnics, taking walks, hiking or jogging. The time I spend outside always brings me peace. I also like animals; at home I have a cat and a fish I take care of, but my family also has bees and chickens. When I was little we also had horses and they are still my favourite animal to this day.
• Music, singing
Not a day goes by without me playing some music! It is the background for a lot of my activities; from cleaning my room or studying to driving around in the car and dancing with my friends. Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I used to play piano but today I enjoy singing more. I sing in two choirs.
• Coffee
My love for coffee goes beyond limits! We Slovenians are “coffee culture” people, as we like to call ourselves. Every time we have visitors at our homes the first thing we offer them is coffee, to catch up with friends we invite them to grab coffee together, for gifts we gift each other coffee … And this culture of ours is something I deeply adore! There is nothing better than preparing coffee (however you like it done – Turkish, French-pressed, from caffettiera or pour over) and the hours-long conversations that follow while sipping the drink.
I have quite some volunteering experience:
• I am an animator for children – that means I help take care of kids during a week-long event called “Oratorij” in my hometown. We prepare theatre plays, DIY workshops, discussion groups, different games and outdoor activities for children.
• I also help in a family and youth centre in my hometown where I help organise different events, help children with their schoolwork and learning English and Slovenian.
• I have volunteered for a non-profit European organisation called Go4peace. I helped them renovate the outside playground equipment of a kindergarten and also did some graphic design for the Slovenian part of the organisation.
• I am also one of the leaders of a youth group in my church.
Languages
I am fluent in Slovenian and English, but also know some German. Recently I've started learning Korean.
About travelling
I have visited three continents up until now: Europe, Africa and Asia. When I was younger I travelled with my family and that is when I first fell in love with travelling. My love for different places and cultures evolved when I saw different parts of the world together with my friends. There is a wonder in me that always drives me to seek out new places to see, people to meet and adventures to experience. I’m looking forward to my next travels!
Hi :)
And this is Manca from the right side. :D
I'm 21 years old and I live in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. I'm a full time student, travel enthusiast and ocean lover. I also believe that everyone should express their childlike excitement at least once a day. Three moments that are most likely to make me feel that excited are: watching a sunset/sunrise, seeing a friend walk towards me and seeing progress while testing my own limits.
School
I study mathematics, more specifically I study to be a mathematics teacher in high school. I really enjoy working with people and teaching them is a delight, because you get to see the progress they make over time. Since I'm studying in college I did some tutoring lessons that allowed me to get creative with the explanation, when students didn't understand the most common one. I enjoyed it, because I got to experience the difference it makes if you have a good teacher or a bad one. I can't wait to try and do my best.
Volunteering
Over summers I have been an animator for kids in church in my hometown. With the help of other young people, I organized a week-long event, called Oratorij (it's organized in most churches in Slovenia). We prepared a little theater play, short catechesis, workshops and big games for everyone attending.
I also volunteered at Salesian Games, where I helped with organization such as helping players find their way around, writing and reporting the results of games and more.
Languages
I speak English fluently and actively, but I also know German and Spanish. But because I don’t speak German and Spanish actively, I would need some time to remember everything that I’ve learned. I'm also trying to learn Korean.
Travelling
Travelling has over the years become one of my favorite activities. I fell in love with it on our school trip to Italy, when we were in this small town with colorful houses. I was with my best friend (the other Manca :D) and we went exploring the town. We went looking for hidden gems and we found this interesting balcony that overlooked the other side of the town and I thought how cool it was to find hidden places like this. From then on, I loved getting lost in the cities or wherever we were and then finding our way back. Sometimes by ourselves and sometimes with the help of locals. The moments we spent with strangers always became our favorite memories, because we got to see a different perspective and hear a part of someone’s life story that was so different from our own.
My life plan is to travel as much as I can and meet new friends around the world.
Sports
One of the things that makes me happy and feel really good is being active. That can be as simple as going for a walk or run in nature or hiking in the mountains. Or it can mean taking a day to go rollerblading near the seaside and if the water is not freezing cold, jumping in for a quick swim.
But it's not just individual activities I like, it's also team sports such as volleyball and football or any other really. I am always up for a sports activity, even more if there are other people joining.
I would also like to learn acroyoga and how to free dive and dive.
Free time
In my free time, I also like being creative. I can sew a little bit and recently I started doing embroidery on tote bags.
Reading is something I have always enjoyed. It’s magical to read words and then see pictures and scenes in your head, meet people that only exist between pages and be inspired by them. I love reading fantasy and fiction, but I would love to widen my range of readings.
Sometimes when I need a mood booster I put on headphones, listen to music and dance for myself. It's amazing and it always works. :) Music means a lot to me, that's why I taught myself how to play a guitar and why I sing in a choir.
If listening to music and dancing is not enough, I like to make myself a cup of coffee (or two). I find it fun to experiment with the preparation and so far I've tried Turkish coffee, coffee from French Press and from cafetiere. At the moment I enjoy the French Pressed one the most, but that could change very soon. ;)
Thank you for reading about us! Let's meet soon! :D
