About Me

Hi my name is Maddy and I'm from Montpellier (South of France).
I moved to Switzerland for three years to study cinema at HEAD in Geneva, then I moved to Paris to finish my studies (I did a master's degree in Philosophy and screenwriting).
Today I work for Canal+ Africa and supervise the creation of TV series :)
I love meeting new people, cultures, cuisines... My friends say I'm a very nice person, and I'm sure I'll be delighted to meet you! 🥰

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I discovered Couchsurfing when I was a teenager living with my parents in Montpellier. My parents were lucky enough to have a house with a guest room, and they hosted a lot of couchsurfers. It was great to meet so many people from different backgrounds, and that's how my mother met her best friend from Chile.
I hosted a few couchsurfers when I was a student in Switzerland, but unfortunately, I don't have the space to host in my current studio in Paris. But I hope I'll soon be able to change my living space and host again.
And when I'm the one traveling... I like travel not to be just a succession of sightseeing tours, but to give me the opportunity to meet and connect with people. I often go to hostels, but it's not the same type of meeting, and I'd love to reconnect with the CS community.

Interests

When I'm caught up in my life in Paris, I feel like I'm running around all the time, and I do what I can to maintain a few vital activities: cooking comfort food, having a beer with friends, doing a yoga class, and once in a while going to see a concert. But as soon as the hectic pace of work stops for a few days, I love to run off into nature to hike, climb, dive, camp... and share beers with my friends once again!

Music, Movies, and Books

Films : I love offbeat comedies (British and Northern humor is so great), but I can also enjoy watching dramas or old movies. A few titles : Death at Funeral, The lady Eve, His girl friday, Adam'apple, Cofee and Cigarettes...

Series : Since I work in TV series, I watch a lot of them, of all different genre. The most important thing for me is that I like the characters. Some references : Spinners, Extraordinary, The Bear, Fargo, True detective, Succession, How I met your mother, GOT...

Music: I listen different kinds of music, depending on the mood of the moment. I love Indie Rock, Electro, Techno, Metal, Jazz, World Music... Right now I have a crush on Bachar Mar Khalifé "Ya Nas"

Books: I love fantasy, but I also read what my mother calls "adult books". My favorite ones : Terre des oublis, Kafka sur le rivage, L'ombre du Vent, La trilogie de Bartiméus...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was traveling in South Africa (solo backpacker), all my plans changed at the last minute cause the friend who was supposed to welcome me in Johannesburg had an accident the day before my arrival. So I arrived in Durban knowing nothing and nobody, and I remembered my parents' reflex when I was a child and we arrived in a new city: go to the tourist office. There I met a very friendly agent. He helped me, and the more we talked, the more we connected and I felt I could trust him. We became friends and three days later I was spending my time with him and his family. We were together to pick up the children from school, go grocery, visit grandma, and we chatted about everything and anything... I really got to experience the life, the city, the culture, through the eyes of locals, and I gained a great friendship!!!
(and just for the record, the friend who had the accident woke up from his coma a few days later, and it was a great relief)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook and will be happy to share my recipes. I can also organize a stretching/yoga session for us.
And I've been a philosophy teacher for some time, but perhaps you don't have the appetite for a lesson on Wittgenstein...

What I Can Share with Hosts

We're in a very connected age, with access to foreign newspapers, social network posts, and we can find out a lot about what's going on elsewhere in the world. And yet, all this information passes through editorial filters (whether they're good or bad is beside the point), and the only way to really get to know a country and its culture is to talk to people face-to-face. What I'd like to share with the CS community, above all, is the opportunity to chat, whether walking down the street, cooking, partying, or just sitting on a sofa with a cup of tea. The rest is just a bonus!
