About Me

I am Mandy, 24 years old and living in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I'm in my fourth year of Psychology at Utrecht University and in my second year of French Language and Culture, and I will start my master's programme (research master in Social and Health Psychology) in september this year. I work as a math teacher (and sometimes french too) at high school students' homes, but only for a few hours per week.
Beside my student and work life, I'm doing gymnastics once a week and I love to go to concerts and festivals, but I am not the kind of person that only goes there to get drunk, I simply love music. I'm not the type to go clubbing until very late, but I do like having a drink every now and then with some friends (but this could be coffee or tea too). I'm learning to play the piano as I bought one myself last summer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I lived in France for a year as an au pair and I loved learning about this new culture and habits. This made me curious about other cultures as well, and couchsurfing seems like the perfect way to get to know new people and cultures. Besides, I think a local knows best which places are really worth it to see in his or her city, so it's the perfect way to dive into a new city/country and its people!

Music, Movies, and Books

Coldplay is my favorite band in the world.
I love music and going to see my favorite bands when they come to my country or a country not that far away. Bands I like and have seen live at least once are Coldplay (of course), Kensington, OneRepublic, The 1975, Muse, Keane, Bastille, The Killers, Snow Patrol and some more that I can't remember now haha.

I have some difficulties concentrating on films and books, so I don't watch a lot of films and I don't read a lot either, but I'm still trying. At the moment, I am reading a book of Oliver Sacks and I'm planning to buy more of his books once I'll finish the one I'm reading now. Oh and at the same time I am reading Albert Camus and I bought 3 other french books (Balzac, Maupassant, Flaubert) during my stay in Paris this summer :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I worked as an au pair in Paris for one year and this was one of the best years of my life. I learned to speak French fluently, met amazing people, learned a lot about myself and the country and culture. I made some good friends there that I still see on a regular base, which is really amazing!

Teach, Learn, Share

I could learn you about the dutch culture and language, which is quite hard according to most non-Dutch people I know. I could teach you some French too and you can read my thesis on data peeking if you're interested in statistics (which is probably not the case) ;)

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
