About Me

I'm a recent graduate who is currently working on his first job in the real world. I work on operating the CLASS telescope (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmology_Large_Angular_Scale_Surveyor) on Cerro Toco right outside of San Pedro de Atacama. At night I'm a tour guide at the San Pedro de Atacama Celestial Explorations (SPACE) observatory where we have the largest telescope for public viewing in South America!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of the reasons why I love traveling is meeting new people. Living in San Pedro de Atacama has been great because I get to meet people from all over the world. One of my favorite ways to meet people has been through couchsurfing!

Interests

Hanging out with friends, making new friends, trying to speak different languages, baseball, basketball, soccer (football), learning science! At University, I was a outdoors sports leader and I lead canoeing and white water kayaking trips. It's awesome because every trip you make new friends and you get the enjoy nature and for some reason people pay me to do this!

I also like to learn about physics, especially Cosmology and Astronomy. The stars have always interested me. If you are a cosmology nut as well, I am working with a group trying to detect primordial gravitational waves created during inflation. If you don't know what the means, I would be happy to explain it to you!

And of course beer and wine!

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to most music! In Chile I've been exposed to Reggaeton, which is my current driving playlist. While in college my best friend introduced me to house/trance/EDM (Armin van Buren is a favorite). I was a big hip hop/rap fan in high school (Childish Gambino!), and I can always go for the top 40 pop sing alongs (Taylor Swift all day!)

My favorite movie is Good Will Hunting.

The books with the greatest impact on my life so far have been The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, A Brief History of Time by Stephan Hawkins, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, and the Autobiography of Malcolm X

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in a Buddhist Monastery in Nepal and taught young Buddhist Monks English, while learning about their form of Buddhism.

Teach, Learn, Share

One of the greatest resources for education is other people. I love learning about the experiences of other people and am willing to share the wisdom (from my 23 years of living haha) from my experiences as well! I also love to eat, and I enjoy cooking a lot. What I can cook I've learned from my parents (Hong Kong style cuisine), and I've also learned a bit of Italian cooking from my roommate. I would like to expand my cooking repertoire and am always interested in learning a new recipe.

I also have no clue about wine. It would be awesome to learn some things about drinking wine!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to give a tour of my telescope and other telescopes (ALMA, ACT, POLAR BEAR, etc.) in the mountains surrounding San Pedro de Atacama. When I have days off I love to travel to the normal San Pedro de Atacama tourist attractions, and would enjoy being a personal tour guide to any one traveling through the area.
