ABOUT ME
Hi, my name is Mara and I am a Latin American Studies major at UBC in Vancouver. Currently I am studying abroad for a year in Barcelona, Spain and traveling through Europe. Overall I am a very positive, go with the flow kind of person. I try my very best to not let negative things ruin a day or my mood. I like to be independent but I love being in the company of others. My friends would describe me as the friend that they can bring along to any event because I love meeting varieties of people. In general I like to stick to my word, and help others in any way possible.
PHILOSOPHY
"Itâs better to have tried and failed than to live life wondering what wouldâve happened if I had triedâ â Alfred Lord Tennyson
Interests
I love to travel, as most people on this website, but I also love experiencing languages and cultures. I love languages, especially Spanish and using it during travels. I also love to dance, to any music that I can find. Another thing that I like is to cook and to explore restaurants and food. History is also another important thing to me that I enjoy to know facts about the world and the more I can learn the better.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The first amazing place that I have been to would have to been Machu Picchu, Peru. I love mountains and I have always grown up with mountains by me and the Andean Mountain Range has to be the most amazing. I can clearly remember looking up from Aguas Calientes and being in complete awe at how they tower over the town. Once we got up to the top at Machu Picchu, the immense history, and beauty of the ruins still remain in my mind.
The second amazing place that has left me awestruck is the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India. I knew before my trip to India that I really wanted to see the Golden Temple but the whole experience still amazed me. We got there exactly at sunset, the temple was radiating in the beautiful light, and the temperature outside was not as warm as during the day. The temple was one of the only sites that I could sit on the marble and really enjoy. The chanting throughout the temple created this amazing calm feeling within me. Learning a little about the Sikh traditions and looking at this amazing temple definitely makes this one of my favourite moments so far.
