Overview
About Me
Hi there! I'm Marc and for the past five years, I studied at the Technical University of Delft. In September, I'm picking up stuyding in Amsterdam. Untill then? Freedom! And that is why I would love to explore Australia from a local couch.
I would enjoy strolling through sydney and anything that involves sports/water/boards. I always take the stairs and have an entrepreneurial spirit. I enjoy spending some time cooking - it does not have to be Michelin-star-worthy food, but it is the 'ritual' of cooking that makes me all chilled out.
I have travelled around Europe plenty, for example past the entire west-coast of Europe into Morocco as part of different windsurfing and surfing trips. Also a lot in France, where I took a three monthsx language course and spent a month every summer for fifteen years. Besides that, I have worked as a ski teacher in Switzerland for half a year.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
For me, travel is all about going around free, spontaneous and surely without a planning. Meeting different- and like-minded people is a big part of that - couchsurfing is a perfect fit.
In Australia as of februari, I'm looking for work in the city, a place to stay and to simply enjoy the lifestyle. That last bit has been easy so far :)
Interests
I am very active in lots of sports. If I wouldn't do any sports for a few days, I'd go crazy. I watch lots of little sports movies, try some of this on youtube: real skifi / danny macaskill / levi siver / kelia moniz / remi gaillard / casey neistat / matchstick productions.
Reading is what I do to either calm down my brain or get inspired. I don't like reading newspapers though; I rather read longer, in-depth articles.
Back home, I enjoy making things: lamps, anything that enhances my current house, funky vodka- and rum-liqueurs, videos (i'm making videos in Sydney!).

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Amy Winehouse, B B King, Eric Clapton, Bil Withers, Bob Marley, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig (dutch rap), Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Goldfish, Katie Melua, Mumford & Sons, Otis Redding, Parov Stellar, Jason Mraz, Jimi, Joe Cocker, Selah Sue, SRV, Tom Waits, The Boiler Room (various) ... we should exchange favorites..
Right now, I'm discovering the (famous) early artists of Soul and Blues music. I play guitar but I didn't bring one this trip.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A forward loop with my windsurfing gear - first I lost the hair on my head over it, with a bet.. but I got it done in the end, haha!
One of my coolest trips was driving down the coast from NL to Morocco, with six windsurfing buddies. Every day, we would check the waves forecast and follow it down south. Every night, we'd roll out our sleeping bags on a different beach somewhere in France / Spain / Portugal / Morocco, cook up some kind of cheap meal and get out the guitars &beers. When the sun was up, we'd be out in the ocean all day - if we weren't eating or driving ;)
Good vibes, sun, sea, music, friends.. that's what it is about!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you things about the sea, about my country and the coffeeshops in Amsterdam, about the city where I spent my last four years: The Hague (Den Haag - although everyone seems to think Amsterdam is our only city ;) ), to ski or to surf.
Have me over and let's exchange ideas on culture, languages, life plans, or anything that gets your heart going! Ooh and I can probably solve your computer problems :p
Also, I love sunsets and sunrises. (well, who doesn't?!)
