Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Now that I am almost 30, I prefer to sleep in a bed. I am here to meet locals in far way places. In my ideal vacation i would visit someone I know and spend a day or night hanging out with that person and meeting the people they know. Swapping stories and listening to how they view the world is interesting to me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent one day and night in the city of Nandi by myself. I explored on my own until a local person approached me and we talked for a bit and got lunch. Then I found myself in a bar at about 1 in the afternoon receiving a sales pitch from a pimp. Enticing, but i was not interested and left the bar. When i walked out two or three other people tried to engage me with, bula. Bula is synonymous with aloha but in this context it meant "hey white person, i want to sell you something". Anyway, I was angrily heading to my hotel room when I figured out the perfect travel strategy. My plan was simple, I would walk up to some random person and engage them. Not someone standing on a street corner but a person who seemed to be going about everyday life. I saw a group of guys tossing a rugby ball around so i asked to play. It was great, 20 on 20 touch rugby match and everyone wanted to give me the ball. After the match, i found out that most of the guys lived in a christian home for boys. They invited me to dinner which i accepted but before arriving, i bought a few tubs of ice cream, soda, and random other snacks that boys like. At the home they fed me some cloudy tofu, mussel soup. It was hard to stomach the mystery soup but judging by the look on the other boys faces, this was a special meal. Probably, the absolute best thing they could make. I was grateful, even though i didn't like it at the time. After, I went to the bar with one of the guys in charge. i bought him rounds and he explained the Indian/Fujian dichotomy. He also shared his plan to join the UK army and in doing so he could get his British citizenship. All interesting stuff and I had a great time!
