About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Pick a direction, and take it.

ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Marcus. I'm living in small town Kentucky working at teaching in a university. Because of my teaching schedule, I don't have much time for travel. Since I don't usually have the time that I would like to discover places and meet people when I do travel, I decided to join CouchSurfing to meet new people and explore new places, both at the same time! Pretty smart, huh?

As I am a huge EDM fan, I will mostly be using CouchSurfing to find people to stay with as I travel to check out local and touring DJ's. I also plan to do actual touring in places when the opportunity presents itself, but my primary motivation for traveling is usually either music or coffee. If you're an EDM fan (or music fan in general), I hope you will consider my request and join me to rage the night away. I can even teach you how to shuffle so that you're ready to stomp ;)

Just a lil about me: I am a coffee and tea fanatic, and I love to travel to also find new coffee shops to try out; I have the worst allergies in the world; I am actively practicing Stoicism and I meditate and do yoga regularly to work on my body, mind and soul; and I have a passion for diversity in dialogue and in life in general. I try my best to surround myself with ideas. I feel like the people in my life are books in a library, and at anytime I want to just pick a book off the shelf and start reading (ie. just enjoying random conversations with all sorts of people).

Anyway, I hate talking about myself to great length through typing, so you are encouraged to contact me directly for more info. I'm a open book in my own library, so feel free to skip over the foreword and get right into the good stuff

Pay it Forward,
Marcus Bell

PHILOSOPHY

The sky's awake, so I'm awake, so we have to play :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a facilitator of the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never hosted; it's strange that more people don't come to my neck of the woods. At any rate, I met someone once, she was really sweet and we had a good time although she and her fiance didn't stay over (you can see her review of me).
As a guest, I will warn that I have bad allergies, and I tend to make a lot of noise the night after a particularly pollen-ous day. Besides that; I clean up after myself, I will ask to help set the table, and I spout out "Please" and "Thank You" like a domesticated 3 year old from the 50's. I believe that all of life's distractions serve one of two purposes, to be meaninglessly disruptive or amusingly stimulating; and I hope to leave you, at the very least, incredibly amused.

Music, Movies, and Books

EDM is love, EDM is life

I've recently been focusing on learning as much as I can about Stoicism, so some of my favorite books now are The Obstacle is the Way and The Daily Stoic, both by Ryan Holiday. I've also enjoyed books in a similar vein, mostly The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson and The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I am planning to work on Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink next, and then I want to dive into my other passion of self-delusion and social, logical and cognitive fallacies through books like You Are Not So Smart by David McRaney.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Korea to teach English for a year because I felt like it

Teach, Learn, Share

I have nothing to teach, much to learn, and everything to share.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I kinda feel this is a weird question mainly because I feel like I've said way too much about myself already. I just want to meet you and talk face to face so we can have real discourse. I just want to share a moment, an experience with you. So much of life is so much more meaningful than we think. I just want to share, period.
