About Me

Hello from Rome,
I'm Marco, originally from Sicily but have been in Rome for a lifetime, loving life without taking myself too seriously. I work in economics (yes, it's true, I do that thing with numbers and I really like it), but when I leave that beautiful and austere building downtown, my mission is to enjoy life...food, music, wine, running.
With two kids, Marta and Matteo, aged 20 and 16, respectively, the house is like a wheel of fortune: sometimes quiet, other times a bit lively. When the kids are out on their adventures, my home becomes an oasis of tranquility - except when I invite friends over for dinner or to play music! I love sharing my space, so it's not uncommon to find other kind souls in the evening sharing a meal or just chatting or playing music...well, playing is a big word...I dabble with the guitar and piano, but if you're up for a bit of a jam, I'm all ears (and strings)!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been home exchangefor more than 20 years, and now I've decided to extend the invitation to travelers like you and me. If you're looking for an informal place, full of good company, authentic flavors, and maybe an music evening, you're welcome in my home!

Music, Movies, and Books

My playlist is a musical kaleidoscope ranging from indie rock to jazz, through classical music and some Sicilian gems.
I love movies that make me laugh and think. Smart comedies and some classics of Italian cinema are always on my list. Two of my all-time favorites are "We All Loved Each Other So Much . C'eravamo tanto amati" and "The Warriors". A mix of nostalgia, myths, and the feeling that being on the right side means being on the wrong side.
Books: I read everything, but Gabriel Garcia Marquez has a place in my heart.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Marvelous Marathon: Imagine a day when I decided to run a marathon, not the Netflix kind ;))
I planned, I followed a training program (quite unusual for me), and incredibly, I stuck to it for months and crossed the finish line in tears of joy.
It's one of the stories I love to share, especially because it shows that behind every madness, there's always a bit of magic!
And so, if I did it...

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to share my knowledge in music or some cooking tips. Yes, I can also teach you how to make the perfect carbonara, provided that you keep the secret to yourself. Of course, I also like wine and i am a sommelier... so if you want to learn about wine tasting...
my home is open to new friendships. I often organize casual evenings with friends, guitar, and some good food. You'll be welcome!
I know Rome well and can give you tips on fantastic places to visit, off the usual tourist track... places that aren't even in Lonely Planet...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can delight you with authentic Italian and Sicilian dishes and, without a doubt, the best carbonara in Rome. Take a look at the photo, and you'll see what I mean!
If you're up for it, we can organize informal music evenings, but with more than 20 years of experience in home swapping, I have a suitcase full of travel stories and advice to share.
