About Me

Hi! My name is Marcos and I’m 19. I’m from a small village in the north of Madrid named Miraflores de la Sierra.

I’m studying Medicine at college and I would like to be a surgeon.

One of my passions is the music. I think music is what brings “magic” to life. I mean, imagine this world without it, how would it be? I can't imagine a world in which music doesn't exist. My favourite genre is rock, and I think guitar is the best instrument. I used to play the guitar, but I quit because I didn't have time.

I see myself as a curious person. I have a great imagination and I like to see beyond the details life shows us. This is what I love about Philosophy, its way to see the world and how it asks a lot of unanswered questions nowadays. I consider myself a huge fan of Plato and Nietzsche.

Besides, I really like nature and science. I love biology and animals. When I was a child I always said that I wanted to be a vet, but then I realized that I couldn’t bear to see an animal suffering and I focused on Medicine: I wouldn’t be able to help animals, but I would save people.

Finally, I love reading and everything related to literature. I think reading a book is living a new life, and I consider that people who read a lot will live more (not in a healthy way, they will live “more lives”) and their culture and grammar will be improved. This fact is essential, due to people need to grow and evolve. Books allow that.

About my travel companion María...
She is studying International Relations after a sort of Gap Year. For her, culture and meeting new people are two essential parts of life.
She is really interested in science, what she likes most of it is understanding the world we live in and furthermore, understanding herself.
Walking, hiking and running are her ways to connect with herself and nature.
Besides, a really important point for her is having fun: which means meeting new people, travelling around and getting lost in the way and of course, partying. She would be happy reading a book under a tree. Or just walking through some unknown street until finding what she was looking for.

We complement each other, we are very different but at the same time share lots of point in common, including our passion to explore.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is the best way to meet new people, learn a new language and other cultures. A travel with CS is, without a doubt, amazing and incredible. CS can help to know a lot of facts about the country you’re visiting and is a unique resource that allows you to learn at the same time that you show yourself to other people.
For me, it is the best way to travel, sometimes people travel to see some monuments that have been there for centuries, forgetting what they mean, people that build them, but most importantly, the people that lives there nowadays.

Ender's Game, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars...

(María is more into Drama: The fault in our stars, The best of me or more realistic and historical ones: Selma on Martin Luther King or The suffragetes, on music she is not into a specific type, but for partying definitely reggaeton).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think we will both agree in that travelling has played a very important role in our lives, we went together in high school on a trip to Germany (that included a 24h bus and amazing experiences, such as running to meet our wished university) and to El Camino de Santiago, that somewhat changed deeply our lives. María has lived, besides in Spain, during a couple of months in the North of Italia.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We think the most important thing we can teach and show is our language and culture. We can teach Spanish and show how truly is Spain’s culture. That includes Spanish fantastic dishes!

We are funny people, always ready to hear a joke and share some great experiences.
